    摘要: A recording and reproducing apparatus of the present invention includes a photo-detector having light receiving sections divided along the track direction of an optical disk. The apparatus also includes a wobble signal processing circuit for generating a wobbling polarity judging signal used in judging a wobbling polarity of a track being tracked by comparing phases of a first wobble signal detected from a difference signal of the outputs of the light receiving sections and a second wobble signal detected from a sum signal of the outputs of the light receiving signals. Consequently, whether the wobbled side wall of the track being tracked is the inner or outer radius of track can be judged in real time by a simple structure using one laser beam.

    摘要: First, a recording magnetic field is generated by a magnetic head using a coil drive current a.sub.1, and a first data signal is recorded on a groove of a recording layer of a magneto-optical disk. Thereafter, similarly, a second data signal is recorded on the same groove as above by a coil drive current a.sub.2. In this case, the first and second data signals have different signal frequencies which do not overlap each other. The amplitude A.sub.1 of the coil drive current a.sub.1, is set greater than the amplitude A.sub.2 of the coil drive current a.sub.2. This arrangement permits multiple recording and increases the recording capacity of the magneto-optical disk.

    摘要: A diffraction element is positionally adjusted on a substitute optical head arrangement while an objective lens is positionally adjusted so as to maximize a total signal calculated in a photodetector, whereby predetermined focusing error signal and tracking error signal are obtained. The thus adjusted diffraction element is adhesively secured on a package housing a light source and a photodetector to form a light source unit. The thus prepared light source unit is positioned on and assembled into an optical head by angularly adjusting the light source and an objective lens on the optical head individually so that both the optical axis of the light, emitted from the light source, and incident on a recording medium and the axis of the objective lens are aligned normal to the recording medium and by coinciding the optical axis of the objective lens with the center of intensity distribution of the incident light on the objective lens. This configuration eliminates the necessity of mechanical parts on the optical head for adjusting the diffraction element and the necessity of a space for the adjustment, so that it is possible to promote the optical head small and light-weighted. In addition, by effecting the optical adjustment when the light source unit is assembled into the optical head, error signals can be adjusted. Therefore, the adjustment step can be omitted.

    摘要: An optical pickup includes: a first projector for projecting a first light beam of a first wavelength so as to record and reproduce information with respect to an optical disk having a first light transmissive layer; a second projector for projecting a second light beam of a second wavelength longer than the first wavelength so as to record and reproduce information with respect to an optical disk having a second light transmissive layer; an objective lens common to the first and second light beams; and a diffraction optical element made of a lens with a diffraction grating and a refracting face and disposed in an optical path between the first and second projectors and the objective lens. The diffraction optical element is set to satisfy a predetermined equation. As a result, an optical pickup is realized that uses a single focusing means to focus light beams of different wavelengths, so as to record and reproduce information with respect to different kinds of optical disks (recording media) respectively having light transmissive layers of different thicknesses and respectively using different optimum wavelengths of light for reproducing.
