摘要: Supplemental oxygen is used by millions of people each year in hospitals and at home. The device and methods described allow people on supplemental oxygen through a feedback loop to optimize their blood oxygen level by measuring oxygen and/or carbon dioxide and/or other related gases in the blood. Because the device and methods optimize the level of supplemental oxygen and/or carbon dioxide and/or other related gases, complications (from too much or too little oxygen and/or carbon dioxide) including death can be prevented. In addition, users can reduce their costs by reducing the amount of oxygen needed as well as labor costs. Additionally, helicopters, ambulance, and mobile surgical sites can reduce weight in critical situations. In addition, the device and methods described also allow patients on ventilators through a feedback loop to optimize ventilation by measuring carbon dioxide in the blood; which can reduce complications, and reduce labor costs. Finally, the device and methods provides a warning system when the oxygen supply is compromised, has or is exhausted.

摘要: Described are concepts that generally relate to a personal positive pressure purified air environment for airplane travel. Simply put, certain embodiments of the present invention are directed to connecting a tube to an airplane air vent at one end and a clear plastic hood, mask, or helmet at the other end. The clear plastic hood, mask, or helmet all have an exit path for the air to flow out. In relation to the clear plastic hood embodiment, it is envisioned that the clear plastic hood can simply drape over person's head with the hood's opening at or above a person shoulder while positive pressure from the filtered air constantly flows out from the hood's opening.

摘要: An integrated chest evacuation tube that is specifically configured for being a closed system when inserted and retained inside of a chest cavity provides enhanced benefits over the state of the art. The integrated chest evacuation tube generally includes a valve that is made up of a hollow elastomeric housing having a collar at an output end of the housing which provides an aperture into the housing, a valve input end at an input end of the housing, and an elongated slit at the valve input end. The slit is configured to close together in a spring-like manner when in a closed position. The valve is integrated and at least partially inside of a chest evacuation tube that has a tube inlet port and a tube outlet port. The tube inlet port is adapted to drain fluid and/or air from a human chest cavity. With the collar fixedly attached to the chest evacuation tube at essentially the tube outlet port, the elongated slit is adapted to be opened by a hollow tube when the hollow tube is forcibly pushed through the slit from a direction of the collar.

摘要: A nasogastric (NG) tube for placement into the lumen of the stomach by way of a nostril having a tapered tip, a lubricious coating, and one or more expandable balloons that surround drainage ports. During insertion into the stomach the tapered tip and lubricious coating facilitate the tube traversing the patient's nasopharynx and esophagus with reduced injury. During insertion the expandable balloons are maintained in a low profile state but upon reaching the stomach lumen are expanded to a high profile state and improve drainage by pushing the stomach wall away from the drainage ports.

摘要: A sutureless chest tube adhesion assembly configured to quickly and easily anchor a chest tube is described. The assembly generally comprises a notched flexible substrate adapted to adhere to human skin 415. A chest tube incision in a notched region of the substrate provides an entry point for the chest tube which is anchored to the substrate by way of an intermediate flexible membrane that covers and adheres to the chest tube and substrate. The intermediate flexible membrane has a matching notched region adapted to accommodate the chest tube. The chest tube and incision are adapted to be covered by a transparent cover sheet which covers and adheres to a portion of the substrate, the intermediate flexible membrane and to a portion of the human skin 415.

摘要: A non-ventilator ET tube cap used to oxygenate a patient during an intubation procedure. The ET tube cap generally comprises an oxygen source connector configured to connect to an oxygen source via an oxygen tube. This provides oxygen to a patient via an ET tube while being intubated. The ET tube cap further includes an ET tube receiving aperture that is specifically arranged to engage an ET tube in a removable relationship prior to the ET tube connected to a ventilator while the ET tube is deployed in a patient. Optionally, the ET tube cap can comprise at least two pressure relief valves that open when pressure inside of the ET tube cap exceeds a predetermined pressure threshold to prevent harm to the patient that is being intubated.

摘要: The disclosed anti-contagion facemask embodiments are a family of transparent facemasks that do not obstruct visibility of a person's mouth when worn. One problem with a typical, widely used, facemask is the difficulty in understanding a person speaking when they are wearing the typical facemask. Not only does the listener have to contend with the muffled speech of a person talking through a facemask, communication is made worse by covering up, or otherwise hiding the wearer's mouth and face with opaque filter material. Accordingly, some embodiments described herein present a clear/see-through filtration mask embodiment that does not visibly obstruct a person's mouth by providing a filtration system along or near the periphery of the facemask.

摘要: A scalpel for cutting soft tissues of the body with an abrasive trailing surface. The abrasive trailing surface reduces distinct scar formation by supporting wound healing. The scalpel can be mounted upon a traditional handle. It may also be implemented as a reciprocating saw, as a rotary drill and reciprocating saw, or as a circular and reciprocating saw.

摘要: A vapor collection system that can be used at an extra-terrestrial body is envisioned to collect target gaseous atoms and molecules that are floating around in a shielded environment at a pressure at or less than 1×10−5 bar. The shielded environment is defined within sidewalls and in some cases is defined within a cover. A condensation surface in the shielded environment is maintained at a temperature between 2° Kelvin and 100° Kelvin to collect the target gas that is floating around, which condenses on the condensation surface as a liquid. A collection receptacle at the condensation surface collects the liquid. A heating element in the shielded environment is made to heat and release the target gas from minerals at or beyond the rim. The gas floats around in the shielded environment.
