摘要: Methods and systems directed to facilitating wireless communication with a wireless terminal are disclosed. A baseband unit (BBU) is configured to perform a first portion of a physical-layer (PHY) protocol of a radio access network (RAN). A remote radio unit (RRU) is configured to perform a remaining portion of the PHY protocol. The RRU is communicatively coupled to the BBU over a non-deterministic communication link. An entity other than the RRU is also used. The system is configured to determine a communication quality parameter and to send a message related to the communication quality parameter to said entity.

摘要: A distributed radio frequency communication system facilitates communication between wireless terminals and a core network. The system includes a group of remote radio units (RRUs). Each RRU of the group of RRUs is coupled to an antenna to communicate with at least some of the mobile terminals and includes electronic circuitry to perform at least a first portion of a first-level protocol of a radio access network (RAN) and communicate over a fronthaul link. The system also includes a baseband unit (BBU) coupled to the core network and the fronthaul link, and communicably coupled to the group of RRUs over the fronthaul link. The RRU receives a synchronization-assisting radio-frequency signal and sends information derived from that signal to the BBU. The BBU processes the information to determine synchronization instructions which are then used to adjust a local clock in the RRU.

摘要: One embodiment is directed to a device for fronthaul communication between a baseband unit (BBU) and a remote unit (RU). A processor of the device is configured to receive, using a first fronthaul interface of the device, fronthaul data originating from said first one of the BBU and the RU. The fronthaul data is formatted according to a first fronthaul protocol when received using the first fronthaul interface. The processor is further configured to format at least some of the fronthaul data received using the first fronthaul interface so as to be formatted according to a second fronthaul protocol thereby producing reformatted fronthaul data and forward, using a second fronthaul interface of the device, the reformatted fronthaul data towards said second one of the BBU and the RU.

摘要: A distributed radio frequency communication system includes a remote radio unit (RRU and a baseband unit (BBU) and facilitates communication between a wireless terminal and a core network. The RRU receives a radio frequency signal from a wireless terminal and convert the radio frequency signal to digital baseband samples using receiver circuitry and an analog-to-digital converter. The RRU then adaptively compresses the digital baseband samples, using adaptive compression circuitry, to create fronthaul uplink information, and sends the fronthaul uplink information over a fronthaul link to the BBU using an adaptive fronthaul protocol. The RRU also receives fronthaul downlink information over a fronthaul link from the BBU using an adaptive fronthaul protocol and generates frequency-domain samples, based on the fronthaul downlink information received. It then creates time-domain baseband samples from the frequency-domain samples and converts the time-domain baseband samples into a radio frequency signal to send to the wireless terminal.

摘要: One embodiment is directed to a system comprising a baseband unit (BBU), a cluster of remote radio units (RRUs), and an orchestration module. The cluster of RRUs and BBU communicate with each other over a fronthaul link using an adaptive protocol. The cluster of RRUs is configured to appear as a single base station to a plurality of mobile terminals in connection with providing wireless service to the plurality of mobile terminals. The orchestration module is configured to configure the cluster of RRUs so that a first RRU of the cluster of RRUs transmits first data to a first mobile terminal included in the plurality of mobile terminals and a second RRU of the cluster of RRUs transmits second data to a second mobile terminal included in the plurality of mobile terminals during a same time period using a same frequency.
