An air-bag arrangement is disclosed, which preferably takes the form of an inflatable curtain. The arrangement comprises a single inflatable element (2) and a gas generator (10), which is configured to inflate the inflatable element (2). The inflatable element (2) defines at least two inflatable chambers (5,6). A gas-supply duct (11) is provided which has an end outlet aperture (19) formed through an end wall 18 of the gas-supply duct (11) so as to have a diameter smaller than the bore of the gas-supply duct (11). The gas-supply duct (11) also has at least one side outlet aperture (20) formed through the side wall of the gas-supply duct (11) at a position generally adjacent the end outlet aperture (19). The side outlet aperture (20) is configured to direct gas out of the gas-supply duct (11) in a direction substantially orthogonal to the direction of gas directed to the end outlet aperture (19). A main radio frequency signal is received based on the main antenna pattern and a test radio frequency signal is received based on the test antenna pattern. The main radio frequency signal comprises communications traffic. Performance of the main receive beam is assessed based on the main radio frequency signal and performance of the test receive beam is assessed based on the test radio frequency signal. The main antenna pattern is adjusted based on a comparison of the performance of the main receive beam and test receive beam.

The present invention provides derivatives of ethanologenic Escherichia coli K011 constructed for the production of lactic acid. The transformed E. coli of the invention are prepared by deleting the genes that encode competing pathways followed by a growth-based selection for mutants with improved performance. These transformed E. coli are useful for providing an increased supply of lactic acid for use in food and industrial applications.
