Cross-linking of addition polymers containing free carboxyl groups by utilizing, as a cross-linking agent, from 0.1 to 10 equivalents per equivalent of free carboxyl of a di-2-oxazoline of the formula
IN THE ABOVE FORMULAE EACH R represents hydrogen or alkyl having from one to four carbon atoms; X'' represents ethyleneoxy or propyleneoxy; R'' represents hydrogen or alkyl having from one to three carbon atoms; X'''' represents oxygen or sulfur; and R'''' represents alkylene of from two to 20 carbon atoms, arylene of from six to 10 carbon atoms or arylakylene of from seven to 15 carbon atoms.

AQUEOUS BASED COSMETIC LOTIONS FOR SKIN CARE AND SKIN PROTECTION MAY BE FORMULATED TO CONTAIN HIGH LEVELS OF AN OILY EFFECT AGENT, SUCH AS AN EMOLLIENT, WITHOUT IMPARTING A GREASY OR OILY FEEL TO THE TOUCH AFTER APPLYING AND DRYING SAME BY THE INCLUSION IN THE LOTION OF AN EMULSION (PATEX) OF A WATER INSOLUBLE, ORGANO SOLUBLE, FILM-FORMING VINYL POLYMER AND A COSMETICALLY SUITABLE EMULSIFYING AGENT. THE EFFECT AGENT MUST BE A NON-SOLVENT AND A NON-PLASTICIZER FOR THE VINYL POLYMER. CERTAIN DESIRABLE INGREDIENTS SUCH AS HUMECTANTS, THICKENERS, ETC. MAY BE OPTIONALLY ADDED TO THE LOTION.
Abstract:
N-Benzylically substituted aziridines are conventionally prepared by reacting a benzyl halide with aziridine (or other non-N-substituted aziridine) in the presence of an acid acceptor. Product yields are considerably improved by conducting the above process in a liquid aromatic hydrocarbon reaction medium. E.g., N-benzylaziridine is prepared in excellent yields by reacting benzyl chloride with aziridine in the presence of powdered KOH and benzene.
