Abstract: The invention relates to ballistic resistant article having a multilayered material sheet which includes a consolidated stack of unidirectional monolayers of drawn polymer, whereby the draw direction of two subsequent monolayers in the stack differs. At least one monolayer comprises a plurality of unidirectional tapes of the drawn polymer, aligned in the same direction, whereby adjacent tapes do not overlap. The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of the multilayered material sheet, and to a ballistic resistant article comprising the multilayered material sheet.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production of a non-fibrous drawn polymer tape, said process comprising the steps: a) compacting a polymer powder in a press to form a compacted polymer bed; b) calendering said compacted polymer bed to form an oriented polymer tape; and c) drawing said oriented polymer tape to form a highly oriented polymer tape; characterized in that step a) comprises compacting the polymer powder at a temperature and pressure such that from 0.1 to 20 wt. % of the polymer powder as measured by DSC is melted. The invention also relates to a tape obtainable by the above process, and a monolayer, multilayered material sheet and ballistic resistant article comprising such a tape.

Abstract: The present invention pertains to a method to manufacture a textile product comprising a first sheet having a width and a length, and polymer yarns fastened to this sheet to form a pile thereon, the method comprising providing the sheet, stitching the polymer yarns through the sheet to form the pile on a first surface of the sheet and loops of the yarns at a second surface of the sheet, transporting the sheet in a direction parallel to its length along a heating element, the heating element being directed to the second surface of the sheet, heating the second surface with the heating element to at least partly melt the loops of the yarns to fasten the yarns to the sheet, wherein the method comprises transporting the sheet in contact with the heating element, wherein the heating element is a stationary rigid plate-like element having a width corresponding to the width of the sheet, and a length that extends parallel to the length of the sheet, the plate being curved in its length direction, wherein the outer circumference of the plate is contacted with the sheet. The invention also pertains to a method to use a textile product obtained with the new method and a device for applying the said method.

Abstract: The invention relates to a multilayered material sheet comprising a consolidated stack of unidirection monolayers of drawn ultra high molecular weight polyolefine. The draw direction of two subsequent monolayers in the stack differs. Moreover the thickness of at least one monolayer does not exceed 50 μm, and the strength of at least one monolayer is comprised between 1.2 GPa and 3 GPa. The invention also relates to a ballistic resistant article comprising the multilayered material sheet and to a process for the preparation of the ballistic resistant article.
