摘要: A fiber reinforced structural element comprising a thermoplastic fiber reinforced member, a non-thermoplastic fiber reinforced member, and a multi-layer woven tie layer. The thermoplastic fiber reinforced member contains at least one layer of thermoplastic fibers and the non-thermoplastic fiber reinforced member contains at least one layer of non-thermoplastic fibers. The multi-layer woven tie layer contains at least a first woven ply and a second woven ply, where the woven plies are integrated through combined portions formed by interlacing warps or wefts of adjacent woven plies. The multi-layer woven tie layer is oriented such that the upper surface of the multi-layer woven tie layer which is predominately thermoplastic fibers is adjacent the thermoplastic fiber reinforced member and the lower surface of the multi-layer woven tie layer which is predominately non-thermoplastic fibers is adjacent the non-thermoplastic fiber reinforced member.

摘要: A composite flexible fabric is employed as a covering for an opening of a building, such as a window or door. The composite fabric protects the opening from hurricane force winds and associated flying objects. The composite fabric is formed from at least one layer of a fabric comprised of high tenacity fibers and at least one ultraviolet radiation resistant layer which is attached to the high tenacity fiber fabric. The UV resistant layer limits transmission of both UVA and UVB rays preferably to less than about 10% of the radiation incident upon such layer. Preferably, the UV resistant layer is a woven fabric, and the layer of high tenacity fibers is a woven fabric of extended chain polyethylene fibers. An adhesive layer may be used to enhance bonding between the fabric layer and the UV resistant layer.

摘要: Laminated structures are disclosed for antiballistic applications or other high-modulus, high-strength composite applications. One embodiment includes a first array having first, non-plain-woven fibers in a substantially A-B orientation. Further, the embodiment includes a second array having second, non-plain-woven fibers also in a substantially A-B orientation. Further still, the laminate structure includes a securing material for adjoining the first array and the second array so that the laminate structure has a substantially A-B/A-B orientation. In other embodiments, the laminate structure may optionally include additional, non-plain woven arrays, wherein each array's constituent fibers are in a substantially A-B orientation, and adjoined with the security material and in a manner to continue the overall A-B repeated orientation. Finally, the laminate structure optionally and externally includes a water-repellant coating.

摘要: An elastic woven tape is disclosed as being composed of at least two kinds of tape sections, each of which having a respectively different elongation and/or modulus, and formed by alternating and continuous integration of these two kinds of tape sections by weaving. The weaving method of the said elastic woven tape includes controlling the changes in the degrees of elasticity provided by elastic threads for the woven tape in mechanized weaving through the control of the feeding speeds of the elastic threads. The advantageous effects of this invention lie in the production of a woven tape composed of tape sections respectively with larger elongation but smaller modulus and with smaller elongation but larger modulus by means of their alternating and continuous integration by weaving, which simplifies the post-weaving operation and improves production efficiency. The resultant woven tape has no connections or joints, which assures the overall beauty of the apparel with the woven tape and the comfort of the apparel in wearing.

摘要: A protective covering system having high-flexibility and low areal density characteristics. In one aspect of the invention, the protective system includes a plurality of metallic staples or wire elements secured to multi-layer matrix including woven fibers, the layers being oriented at cross angles to provide a grid-like pattern of protective elements. In one aspect of the invention, protective elements provide a coverage area of less than 90% and as little as 40% of total surface area. In one aspect of the invention, protective elements may be mechanically secured to a matrix by a puncture and crimp process. In another, wire elements may be attached or woven into one or more matrix layers.
