    摘要: A suspended stripline corporate feed with an orthogonal transition to a coaxial transmission line at each of its input/output ports. Alternate I/O ports are pointed in opposite directions so that devices on both sides of the feed can be serviced by the same circuit. The cover for the feed is made out of injection molded, copper plated plastic. When utilized to distribute RF energy to T/R modules in an Active Array, the feed is machined as an integral part of the heat exchanger which cools the modules.

A center conductor pin (52) extends through a cylindrical dielectric (54) to form a coaxial midsection of the device. The ends of the pin extend from the dielectric to form a conductor for a straight open troughline at each end of the device. The ends of the pin are connected to the microstrip circuits by ribbon bonds (80, 84). Because the midsection of the device is coaxial, the microstrip circuits (82, 86) may be oriented at arbitrary angles with respect to one another.

    摘要: The present invention relates to panel array antennas, and more particularly to a cooling system for an antenna such as a jet stream conformal panel array antenna. In one embodiment, a panel array antenna for an aircraft includes a closed-loop fluid flow path that passes through the panel array assembly and dissipates heat to the jet stream outside the aircraft. A fluid such as pressurized air passes through this closed-loop path, flowing through strategically-placed openings in the layers of the panel array assembly and flowing over and around the hot electrical components in the panel assembly. The air is heated by these electrical components, and the heated air then flows through the flow path under the top sheet, dissipating the heat to the jet stream outside. In one embodiment, a panel array antenna includes a panel assembly having a top layer through which the antenna radiates or receives a signal, and a fluid flow path through the panel assembly. A first portion of the fluid flow path is disposed below the top layer such that a fluid passing through the first portion of the fluid flow path is in heat transfer proximity to the top layer.

In the illustrative embodiment, the antenna comprises a substrate and an array of radiating elements disposed on said substrate, each of the elements including a-resonant cavity and a mechanism for feeding the cavity with an electromagnetic signal., The cavity is formed in a multi-layer structure between a ground plane and a layer of metallization. A layer of foam is disposed between the layer of dielectric material and the ground plane. Second and third parallel layers of dielectric material are included in each element. The second layer is disposed adjacent to the ground plane. A layer of element interconnection circuitry is disposed between the second and third layers of dielectric material. A transmit/receive module or circuitry for each element is secured to the third layer of dielectric material. The substrate may be conformal or conformable, as well as rigid. An arrangement is included for steering a beam transmitted or received by the antenna.
