    摘要: A voltage sensing apparatus includes an output for a voltage tap point that is useful in representing the voltage on a conductor that passes through the voltage sensing apparatus. The voltage sensing apparatus also performs the function of a separable insulated conductor, e.g. a conventional bushing or bushing insert as utilized in the electrical power distribution field. The voltage sensing apparatus includes a molded body having an embedded capacitance screen that provides the output. The body is molded about the capacitance screen. An arrangement is provided for locating the capacitance screen within the molded body. In a preferred embodiment, the capacitance screen is molded from a conductive plastic preferably formed with an open mesh or screen structure that permits the free flow of molding material.

    摘要: A contact arrangement is provided, e.g. of the type that functions as a wiping contact for a moving contact such as a pivotally mounted switch blade in an electrical power distribution switch. The contact arrangement in an illustrative embodiment includes spaced apart contact members that are biased toward each other to define predetermined contact pressure/force characteristics with respect to the interposed moving contact. The contact members in a preferred embodiment include predetermined contact areas and predetermined structural features to minimize deformation due to magnetic forces experienced in the presence of high currents. The structural features are also arranged to define current paths that increase the contact pressure. In a particular embodiment the contact areas are formed on the contact members so as to minimize the size of the moving contact.

    摘要: An improved current-limiting section is provided for an interrupting device. A main-current-path section of the interrupting device carries substantially all of the normal, load current while only a negligible portion of the current flows through a higher-impedance current-limiting section. Upon operation of the interrupting device, the contacts of a switch in the main-current section are rapidly separated to create one or more gaps. Upon the creation of the one or more gaps, the current is transferred into the current-limiting section. The current-limiting section includes a plurality of fusible elements. The fusible elements are thin, elongated, conductive ribbons. One or more of the fusible elements has a first predetermined pattern of reduced cross-sectional areas that is different than a second predetermined pattern of reduced cross-sectional areas provided in the one or more remaining fusible elements such that for low overcurrent conditions, the one or more fusible elements having the second predetermined pattern melt and have gaps created therein at an earlier time than the one or more fusible elements having the first predetermined patterns. At high overcurrent conditions, the melting characteristics of the fusible elements having the first predetermined pattern and the melting characteristics of the fusible elements having the second predetermined pattern are substantially equal.

    摘要: Disclosed is an arcing rod catcher for a high voltage fuse which engages the arcing rod when the arcing rod moves during fuse operation so that the arcing rod will not bounce back or reverse directions during and after fuse operation. Since the arcing rod movement is utilized to actuate a fuse latch assembly to release the fuse from an upper mounting when it operates, it is necessary for the arcing rod to move to the operating position and remain in that position to permanently indicate that the fuse has operated and to prevent the possibility that a blown fuse will be re-latched into a closed position. The disclosed invention utilizes engaging fingers which allow the arcing rod to pass in one direction but prevent the arcing rod from returning in the opposite direction when the fuse operates.

The actuator includes at least one force generating element for generating an opening force for opening the circuit interrupter and for generating a restoring force to close the circuit interrupter. In a preferred arrangement, the device is provided with an automatic mode of operation including a reclose process and a non-reclosing mode of operation. The device also preferably includes a method of determining the end-of-life of a vacuum interrupter monitors characteristics and/or parameters of a fault current or vacuum interrupter operation to predict a percent of life consumed with each fault current interruption operation. A cumulative percent of life consumed may also be determined, and an end-of-life may be predicted based upon the cumulative percent of life consumed.

    摘要: An improvement in an exhaust device to absorb the energy of exhaust gases released during operation of a circuit interrupting device such as a power fuse or an expulsion fuse is disclosed. The exhaust control device includes a hollow housing coated with a corrosion resistant coating mounted to the circuit interrupting device by means of an adapter, composed of a corrosion resistant material such as brass, which is retained in a counterbore within the housing by rolling or folding over the extended upper rim of the housing so that the coating is not damaged. Alternatively, a steel header, welded to and plated along with the steel housing shell, within which the threaded brass adapter is installed, may also be used. The same rolling or folding operation may be used to secure a plated outlet end wall. Baffles positioned within the housing for partitioning the housing into chambers for cooling and filtering the hot exhaust gases, for changing the direction of flow of the gases and for attenuating sound are held in place by crimping the hollow housing around the baffles so that the plating is not damaged. An annular expansion space formed between the hollow housing and an inner cylindrical shell increases the surface area of the hollow housing which is exposed to the blast of exhaust gases emitted from the fuse and provides an additional expansion chamber for receiving the exhaust gases produced by the interrupting device. A labyrinth plate with circumferential notches formed therein and arcuate ridges formed within and adjacent to said notches, forms gas diverting channels and a labyrinth flow pattern exhaust path to the exit ports formed within an outlet end wall.
