摘要: Improved techniques for forming an electronic device housing in which an outer housing member can be assembled with one or more other housing members of the electronic device are disclosed. The one or more other housing members can together with a thin substrate layer (or thin substrate) form a frame to which the outer housing member can be secured. The thin substrate layer facilitates molding of the one or more other housing members adjacent to the outer housing member. In one embodiment, the outer housing member can be made of glass and the one or more other housing members can be made of a polymer, such as plastic. The substrate layer can, for example, be formed of a polymer or a metal. The resulting electronic device housing can be thin yet be sufficiently strong to be suitable for use in electronic devices, such as portable electronic devices.

摘要: A media device for storing and playing media such as audio, video or images, includes a memory device configured to store a plurality of media items in a digital format. The media device also includes a display configured to present a group of media items from the plurality of stored media items and to present a visual indicator that is capable of scrolling through the displayed group of media items in order to designate a specific media item from the group of media items. The media deice further includes a touch pad configured to receive input from a sliding motion or a tapping motion of a finger. The sliding motion of the finger controls the movement of the visual indicator through the group of media items. The tapping motion of the finger selects the specific media item that is designated by the visual indicator.

摘要: A touch and motion sensitive input control configured to use a combination of touch sensor output and motion sensor output to determine if an input event has occurred at an input area. The touch and motion sensitive input control can detect a particular input event (e.g., a button press) when a touch sensor detects a touch at a particular input area at around the same time as a motion sensor detects a change in motion. Based on the amount and nature of the motion detected, this can indicate that a user intended to cause an input event other than one caused by a mere touching of the input area.

摘要: Apparatus, systems and methods for improving strength of a thin glass cover for an electronic device are disclosed. In one embodiment, the glass member can have improved strength by chemical strengthening in a series of stages. The stages can, for example, have a first ion exchange stage where larger ions are exchanged into the glass cover, and a second ion exchange stage where some of the larger ions are exchanged out from the glass cover. Optionally, in one embodiment, the glass cover can improve its strength by forming its edges with a predetermined geometry. Advantageously, the glass cover can be not only thin but also adequately strong to limit susceptibility to damage. In one embodiment, the glass member can pertain to a glass cover for a housing for an electronic device. The glass cover can be provided over or integrated with a display, such as a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) display.
