The printed circuit board portion has an encoder contact pattern formed thereon. The printed circuit board has an area larger than the cross sectional area of the housing. The encoder contact pattern surrounds an aperture in the circuit board. The rotatable shaft of the rotary encoder is passed through the aperture such that the rotatable circuit contacting members contact the encoder contact pattern on the circuit board. The housing includes projections, substantially orthogonal to the circuit board, for engaging a feature of the circuit board for securing the integrated encoder in an assembled state. Alternatively, the housing may glued to the circuit board. A further feature of the subject rear-mount integrated rotary encoder is that it is substantially cylindrical in shape to reduce the required spacing between adjacent encoders.

Each of the respective plates has a raised component with an aperture therethrough to provide a path through the plate. The raised component is preferably scoop-shaped with the aperture at one end and an opposite end tapering into the respective plate. At least a portion of one of the raised components overlaps at least a portion of the other of the raised components when the plates are coupled together to form a path through the plates, while the plates are coupled together. Line-of-sight openings through the plates, to an electronic device protected by the EMI shield, are at least partially prevented by the raised components.

An optical adapter for an imaging system correcting images of spherical or near spherical bodies such as the earth during satellite image collection. An imaging system includes an image collector that collects a two-dimensional image of the body from a distance above the body such as from a satellite in geostationary orbit. The collected image is disk shaped and includes distortion due to earth curvature, primarily in the form of a loss of resolution due to the foreshortening of earth features in a radial direction extending outward from the center of the image disk. The optical adapter receives the collected image, transforms the collected image to correct the distortion, and outputs a corrected image with essentially uniform spatial resolution across the areas for which the correction is applied. An image sensor such as charge-coupled device array senses the corrected image and creates a digital representation of the corrected image.

A number of intelligent nodes (bus interface units-BIUs and memory control units-MCUs) are provided in a matrix composed of processor buses (105) with corresponding error-reporting and control lines (106); and memory buses (107) with corresponding error-reporting and control lines (108). Error-detection mechanisms deal with information flow occuring across area boundaries. Each node (100, 101, 102, 103) has means for logging errors and reporting errors on the error report lines (106, 108). If an error recurs the node at which the error exists initiates an error message which is received and repropagated on the error report lines by all nodes. The error message identifies the type of error and the node ID at which the error was detected. Confinement area isolation logic in a node isolates a faulty confinement area of which the node is a part, upon the condition that the node ID in an error report message identifies the node as a node which is a part of a faulty confinement area. Logic in the node reconfigures at least part of the system upon the condition that the node ID in the error report message identifies the node as a node which is part of a confinement area which should be recofigured to recover from the error reported in the error report message.
