摘要: The invention provides VEGFxxxb, or an agent which selectively promotes the expression of VEGFxxxb in preference to VEGFxxx in cells of a subject or in vitro, or an expression vector system which causes the expression of the VEGFxxxb in a host organism, for use in treating or preventing neuropathic and neurodegenerative disorders, or for use as a neuroprotective or neuroregenerative agent in vivo or in vitro. The VEGFxxxb is preferably VEGF165b.

摘要: A system for holding the mouth of a human closed when lying in the supine position. Such a system can be used for deceased persons with the tendency for the mouth to relax open. Use of this system adds dignity to the cadaver for viewing by others prior to the embalming process.

摘要: The invention provides a method of selectively pro-oranti-angiogenic treatment of a mammalian subject, comprising site-specific control of alternative splicing during processing of VEGF pre-mRNA transcribed from the C terminal exon 8 of the VEGF gene using controlling agents for the splicing, wherein one or more controlling agent which favors proximal splice site (PSS) splicing in said processing is used in the pro-angiogenic treatment and one or more controlling agent which favors distal splice site (DSS) splicing in said processing is used in the anti-angiogenic treatment.

摘要: A discrete resonator is -provided, including a dielectric base having a dielectric constant. A metal contact formed on a major surface of the dielectric base has a predetermined area and is positioned at a predetermined location on the dielectric base to provide a predetermined loaded Q for the resonator. A metal ground coating is formed on the outer surface of the dielectric base with the exception of an isolation region surrounding the metal contact that is free of the metal ground coating. The area of the isolation region is sufficient to prevent significant coupling between the metal contact and the metal ground coating. The dielectric constant of the material used for the base, and the width and length of the dielectric base are each selected such that the resonator resonates at least at one predetermined resonant frequency in the GHz frequency range.

摘要: A time entry recording and management system includes a plurality of fields, a selector and an actuator. The plurality of fields includes a date field configured to display a date, a start field configured to display a starting time of a time entry, a stop field configured to display an ending time of the time entry, a description field configured to display a description of the time entry, and at least one code or designation field configured to display a code or designation assigned to the time entry. The selector is movable between at least two of the plurality of fields. The actuator is configured to perform at least one of a plurality of functions upon being actuated depending upon in which of the plurality of fields the selector is located. The actuator is also configured to fill in at least two of the fields upon being actuated once in some instances.

摘要: A liquid collection system for collecting and discharging urine from a catheterized patient. A collection bag receives urine through the catheter, and has a drain system therein, which comprises a valve having a bactericide element over which the urine must flow as it is being drained from the bag. The bactericide element is held in an openable cage, so as to permit replacement of the bactericide element as an "as needed" basis. The bactericide disposed within the valve helps prevent retrograde contamination of the liquid collection system.
