摘要: A method and an apparatus for collating a plurality of groups of mail items, such as flats mail, each group being pre-sequenced according to prioritized delivery addresses, into a final sequenced set of the mail items from the groups, utilizing the prioritized delivery addresses. Each bundle of mail items is formed into a single input stream of the individual mail items. The mail items are transported along a conveyor system from the input stream to a staging station. The mail items are sorted at the staging station into a plurality of subsets of mail items re-sequenced as an intermediate step to achieving the final sequenced sets. The mail items are then collated and merged into a single output stream from the respective subsets of mail items in the final sequenced set. Portions of the output stream from the staging station are collected in batches which maintain the sequence consistent with the prioritized delivery order sequence of the mail for a given carrier route.

摘要: A robot including a vision system for providing information to the robot to permit the robot to accurately place electrical components such as integrated circuits on a circuit board is disclosed. The vision system includes a first camera for generating signals indicating to the robot the precise location on the circuit board at which the components are to be placed. A second vision system provides to the robot information permitting the location and angular rotation of the component as held by the robot to be determined. The circuit board and component are then positioned in precise alignment by the robot and the robot places the circuit in the desired predetermined location.

摘要: A system for automatically inserting the leads of electrical components into circuit boards is disclosed. In the preferred embodiment, an electrical component is acquired by the robot. The leads of the component have been trimmed and preformed such that they are substantially parallel with respect to each other with the leads differing in length. The robot positions the component at a fixed location relative to the axis of the robot and within the view of an optical sensor such as a TV camera. The sensor determines the location of each of the leads relative to a fixed location. A first rotary motion rotates the component about a selected axis of the robot through a predetermined angle and a second measurement is made. A second rotation positions the component 180.degree. from the original position and a third measurement is made. Since the angles through which the component is rotated are known, the distance or radius of rotation of each of the leads can be calculated using the known axis of rotation and the radius of rotation, the precise location of each of the leads with respect to the robot is calculated. From the results of these calculations, the longest lead is partially inserted in the desired hole in a circuit board. The component is repositioned, as necessary, for insertion of the second longest lead. This process is repeated to insert all of the leads of the component.
