    摘要: An electromagnetic thrust bearing having reduced windage losses, improved structural integrity, and enhanced electromagnetic flux density. The present invention provides an electromagnetic thrust bearing having a first annular stator segment and a second annular stator segment joined thereto to define an annular electromagnetic coil chamber having an L-shaped cross-section. By employing first and second stator segments, the electromagnetic coil can be precision wound onto one segment without interference from the other segment, and then the two segments can be joined after the precision winding has been performed. The first segment is joined to the second segment at a location remote from the stator poles to thereby provide a more structurally sound assembly able to better withstand loads imposed thereon. The stator segment pole faces include axially extending lips to maximize electromagnetic flux density and thus load carrying capacity.

    摘要: A method of forming a flux regulated machine includes winding stator windings into slots in an outer core. The outer core is formed to have a plurality of radially inwardly extending tooth pieces that are circumferentially spaced, and which define the slots. Further, control coils are wound around an inner core. Then, the inner core is inserted within the outer core such that the tooth pieces contact the inner core, and such that the control coils close off the slots at a radially innermost position. A flux regulated permanent magnet machine generally made according to this method is also disclosed.

    摘要: A magnetic bearing system (24) supports a shaft (20). The bearing system (24) includes a magnetic rotor (34) and a stator element (36) positioned in proximity to the rotor (34). A plurality of first electromagnets (40, 41, 42) are mounted in the stator element (36). The first electromagnets (40, 41, 42) are of relatively large size to provide high load bearing capacity. A plurality of second electromagnets (44, 45, 46) are mounted in the shator element (36) in spaced relation with the first electromagnets (40, 41, 42), the second electromagnets (44, 45, 46) being of relatively small size to provide high frequency response. Displacement sensors (56, 57, 58) sense position of the shaft (20) relative to the stator element (36). A controller (60) is coupled to the displacement sensors (56, 57, 58) and the electromagnets (40, 41, 42, 44, 45, 46) for controlling current thereto. The controller (60) develops a first set of current signals to the first electromagnets (40, 41, 42) and a second set of current signals to the second electromagnets (44, 45, 46).
