    摘要: An electron source includes a first electrode, a second electrode, a thermionic element interposed between and electrically isolated from the first electrode and the second electrode, and a guard electrode interposed between and electrically isolated from the first electrode and the second electrode. The thermionic element and the guard electrode may be at substantially the same voltage. Another electron source includes a first electrode, a second electrode, a thermionic element interposed between and electrically isolated from the first electrode and the second electrode, and a thermal expansion component interposed between and electrically isolated from the first electrode and the second electrode. The thermal expansion component may be heated to cause expansion. The heating may be cycled to cause alternating expansion and contraction.

    摘要: An electrode structure for manipulating ions includes a main electrode and a compensation electrode. An outer surface of the main electrode includes a curved section that includes an apex. An aperture is generally disposed at the apex and extends along a radial center line from the outer surface through a thickness of the main electrode. The compensation electrode is disposed at the radial center line and at a tangent line tangent to the apex. Another electrode structure includes a plurality of main electrodes defining an interior space, and one or more compensation electrodes disposed in the interior space. RF signals may be applied to the main electrodes and to the compensation electrode.

    摘要: A photoionization detector for detecting effluents from a gas chromatographic column has a microwave induced helium plasma as the photon source. Since the source plasma may be at atmospheric pressure and need not be sealed, energy loss due to transmission of photons through a window can be eliminated. Use of alternating electromagnetic fields instead of a direct current discharge obviates the problems of anode sputtering.

    摘要: A flame detector comprising a ceramic flame jet for use in a high temperature gas chromatography system is disclosed. The interior volume of the flame jet is fabricated of a highly inert ceramic material so that sample eluting from the end of a gas chromatography column located within the interior volume of the flame jet does not contact any metallic surface en route to the flame. By avoiding sample contact with metallic surfaces, interferences which are prone to occur at high temperature, such as peak tailing, are avoided. In a further aspect the flame detector is treated with a silylating reagent to further passivate the surfaces which may affect the sample.

The rims of the cup-shaped section nearly touch the inner walls of the cell 120 so as to separate the active volume from the areas at the top corners of the cell 120 which are not actively swept by the carrier gas, thus reducing the tailing of chromatographic peaks.
