摘要: Porous vascular grafts and stent covers are formed of open-celled microcellular polymeric foams having a porosity that can be modified to be adapted for carrying and delivering different types of therapeutic drugs. A stent cover is formed of a tubular member including at least one layer of a porous, microcellular foam formed from a polymeric material capable of absorbing and releasing therapeutic drugs at predictable rates for delivery of the therapeutic drugs in localized drug therapy in a blood vessel. A composite metal and polymer vascular graft is formed of an interior structural stent member, and an outer layer or coating of the porous, microcellular foam. The method of making the composite metal and polymer vascular graft involves providing an interior structural stent member with an outer layer or coating of the porous, microcellular foam, and can further comprise the step of loading a therapeutic drug into the outer layer of the porous, microcellular foam for delivery of the therapeutic drugs in localized drug therapy in a blood vessel.

摘要: A catheter having an inflatable member formed of a liquid crystal polymeric material. The inflatable member is formed from a blend of a minor amount, preferably less than 10%, of liquid crystal polymer with a major amount of a non-liquid crystal polymer having LCP fibers that are highly oriented in the machine direction. The aspect ratio of the liquid crystal polymeric material fibers is greater than 10, so that the polymer blend has mechanical characteristics similar to a fiber-reinforced composite with improved strength and optimal compliance.

摘要: An expandable filtering material expands within a body vessel (e.g. artery) when fluid flows through the vessel. Expandable pockets in the filtering material trap emboli released in the fluid. The filtering material is inserted into the vessel at a particular position distal to a lesion in the direction of the fluid flow. A protective sleeve covers the filtering material. An interventional device is disposed in the vessel at the lesion position to treat the lesion. The sleeve is removed from the expandable filtering material thereby expanding the filtering material within the vessel. The interventional device treats the lesion and opens up the vessel at the lesion position. The interventional device is thereafter removed. Retaining pockets in the expandable filtering material trap emboli released in the fluid of the body vessel.

摘要: An intravascular catheter capable of both rapid-exchange and over-the-wire modes of operation having a relatively long proximal shaft portion, a relatively short distal section and an intermediate shaft section, which connects the proximal shaft section and the distal shaft section. In one embodiment, the intermediate shaft section includes a guide wire port and a first guide wire lumen which extends throughout both the intermediate and distal shaft section, and a second guide wire lumen which extends throughout the entire catheter shaft. In another embodiment, the intermediate shaft section includes a y-lumen junction which allows a first guide wire lumen introduced at the intermediate shaft section and a second guide wire lumen extending from the proximal end of the catheter shaft throughout the proximal shaft section to merge and communicate with a single distal guide wire lumen which extends from the intermediate shaft section to the distal end of the catheter shaft. In another embodiment, the catheter shaft includes a single guide wire lumen extending from the proximal end to the distal end wherein the guide wire lumen is defined by a proximal section and a distal section. The proximal section guide wire lumen includes a slit which allows a guide wire to be removed for rapid-exchange mode of operation or retained for over-the-wire mode of operation.
