摘要: A network infrastructure element (300) can be configured to, upon determining (101) that an end-user platform (305) seeks to download an executable program, execute (103) the program to develop a corresponding model that represents corresponding operating system call-based behavior. The network infrastructure element can then use (104) this model to vet the operating system call-based behavior of the program with respect to end-user platform policies. When the operating system call-based behavior vets acceptably with respect to these policies, the end-user platform can then be permitted to download (106) the executable program. If desired, the network infrastructure element can provide (107) the model to the end-user platform to permit vetting of the modeled behavior with respect to locally-maintained policies. The model provided to the end-user platform can comprise a size-reduced sliced model.

摘要: A semi-duplex communication system provides high channel efficiency by having the base station transmit a reference signal which each terminal uses as a sync signal. Each unit having data to send to the base responds with a very brief signal such as a burst of silent carrier transmission during an assigned time slot in a queue of slots. Only those units which responded thus are polled during the subsequent polling cycle. During the transmission time slots, the base can be sending acknowledgments to those terminal units having sent messages during the previous polling cycle. While polling for data or acknowledgments or sending acknowledgments, the base can also be listening for the respective responses. The address code of a terminal unit is further encoded to carry other required information in both directions.

摘要: In a battery powered selective call receiver receiving a synchronous signal, a battery saving method extends battery life by optimizing the amount of time the receiver circuit is activated when searching for the signal after previously acquiring synchronization. The battery saving method allows for turning the selective call receiver on without activating the receiver circuit. The receiver circuit is activated at a time later than the energization of the selective call receiver, where the time of activation of the receiver circuit is determined in response to the time passed since synchronization was last acquired and the system signal stability.

摘要: A radio communication system includes a base station and a plurality of remote units. The remote units can be operated in one of several modes. In the Message Storage mode, a telephone or remote unit caller is verbally informed that the called remote unit is not receiving calls, and the caller is then given the option to store a voice or numeric message for later transmission to the called remote unit. If a caller enters an Override code, however, the system attempts to establish voice communication between the caller and the called remote unit. In the Call Screening mode, the caller's message is stored in the base station and, simultaneously, forwarded to the called remote unit. During reception of the message, the called remote unit can "pickup" the call and begin normal voice communications with the caller. When a remote unit changes from the Message Storage mode to some other mode, its stored messages are automatically forwarded to the remote unit. If the remote unit is busy, out of radio transmission range, or doesn't respond to a call, the caller is given an opportunity to store a message.

摘要: A method and apparatus for closed loop frequency control in a two-way radio communication system (100) include a base communication unit (104) and a portable communication unit (108) having a portable-to-base initiation channel (202) assigned to a predetermined frequency. A signal is transmitted (502) from the portable communication unit (108) to the base communication unit (104) on an initiation frequency of approximately the predetermined frequency. The base communication unit (104) determines (506) from the signal a frequency correction factor (326) for recalibrating the initiation frequency in accordance with the predetermined frequency. The frequency correction factor (326) is communicated (512) to the portable communication unit (108), and the portable communication unit (108) recalibrates (516) the initiation frequency in response.

摘要: A method and apparatus for reliably delivering information service messages (300) from a central terminal (106) to a communication receiver (118) in a wireless message communication system (100). The communication receiver (118) receives information service messages including an information group identifier and data updates corresponding thereto. The communication receiver (118) receives disable messages (400) including an expiration time. The communication receiver (118) decodes received data updates (306) when the information group identifier (226) is determined as enabled. It does not decode received data updates (306) when the information group identifier (220) is determined as disabled (222). The communication receiver (118) determines enabled status as a default condition, and determines disabled status when a disable message (400) was received. The received disable message (400) includes an expiration time (408) for maintaining the information group identifier (220) disabled until the expiration time (224) expires and then enables the information group identifier (220).

摘要: A pager or other selectively-addressed electronic device powered by a small power cell operates in four different modes and at two power levels, depending on signals received and a timing sequence. The device can stay active continuously, be activated at intervals or remain in a powered-down state. The address code assigned to a particular device would be transmitted at a predetermined time interval following a sync signal, thus the device can be powered-down until the approximate time period in which its address code could be transmitted. The system provides increased channel efficiency since information codes are superimposed on actual address codes, and there is no dead time in a channel while there are address codes waiting to be transmitted. The system is particularly well adapted to time multiplexing.
