Abstract: A biaxially oriented multilayer film having a core layer that includes a polyethylene-based composition. The core layer has: a melt index (I2) that is from 0.2 g/10 min to 5.0 g/10 min; a density that is between 0.930 g/cm3 and 0.956 g/cm3; and an average short chain branch (SCB) level in the portion between log (Mw) of 4.0 to 5.0 (SCBlogMw4-5) that is greater than 3.5 SCB/1000c and less than 10.0 SCB/1000 C. The biaxially oriented multilayer film also includes at least one additional layer that includes a propylene-based composition.

Abstract: A biaxially-oriented polyethylene (BOPE) multilayer film comprises a skin layer with a matte surface and a core, the skin layer with a matte surface comprising, in weight percent (wt %) based upon the weight of the skin layer: (1) from 20 to 80 wt % of an ethylene-based polymer, and (2) from 80 to 20 wt % of a propylene-based polymer; each of the ethylene-based polymer and the propylene-based polymer having a storage modulus, with a difference between the storage modulus of the ethylene-based polymer and the propylene-based polymer of greater than 40 megaPascals (MPa) at 110° C., and greater than 18 MPa at 120° C.

Abstract: The present disclosure is concerned with a method of forming a seal with a polyethylene based film structure. The polyethylene based film structure has at least one layer formed with an oriented polyethylene having a predetermined melting temperature (Tm). A conductive heat sealing device provides heat to form the seal, where a first sealing bar of the conductive heat sealing device operates at a first operating temperature of at least 10 degrees Celsius (° C.) below the Tm of the oriented polyethylene in the polyethylene based film structure and a second sealing bar of the conductive heat sealing device operates at a second operating temperature of at least 15° C. higher than the operating temperature of the first sealing bar. The seal formed with the polyethylene based film structure retains at least 99 percent of its original surface area prior to forming the seal.

Abstract: The present invention provides multilayer structures and articles formed from such structures. In one aspect, a multilayer structure comprises (a) a biaxially oriented polyethylene film comprising an outer layer that comprises a first polyethylene composition comprising at least two linear low density polyethylenes, wherein the first polyethylene composition has a density of 0.910 to 0.940 g/cm3, an MWHDE>95 greater than 135 kg/mol and an IHDE>95 greater than 42 kg/mol, wherein the film has a thickness of 10 to 60 microns after orientation; and (b) a metal layer comprising a metal deposited on the outer layer, wherein the metal comprises Al, Zn, Au, Ag, Cu, Ni, Cr, Ge, Se, Ti, Sn, or oxides thereof, and wherein the multilayer structure has an optical density of 1.0 to 3.6, wherein the multilayer structure has a 2% secant modulus of at least 300 MPa in the machine direction when measured according to ASTM D882, and wherein the multilayer structure has an oxygen gas transmission rate of 350 cc/[m2-day] or less when measured according to ASTM D3985-05. Embodiments of the present invention also relate to processes for manufacturing multilayer structures.

Abstract: A laminate, an article comprising the laminate and a method for preparing the laminate are provided. The present disclosure relates to a laminate, comprising a first substrate comprising a metalized polyethylene-based (PE based) film; a second substrate comprising a polyethylene terephthalate-based film or a polypropylene-based film; and, an adhesive layer adhering the first substrate to the second substrate, wherein the adhesive layer is derived from a two-component solvent-based polyurethane adhesive composition; wherein the concentration of fatty acids or fatty acid derivatives in the metalized PE-based film is less than 300 ppm, based on the total weight of the metalized PE-based film, wherein the two-component solvent-based polyurethane adhesive composition comprises a polyester polyol component and a polyisocyanate component, wherein the polyester polyol component has about 40 wt %-60 wt % of aromatic rings in the backbone, based on the total weight of the polyester polyol and a molecular weight (Mw) between 5,000 and 50,000; and wherein the weight ratio of the polyester polyol component to the polyisocyanate component is from 100:5 to 100:30.

Abstract: Provided are multilayer structures as well as articles and laminates formed therefrom. A multilayer structure according to embodiments disclosed herein comprises a film and a metal layer comprising a metal deposited on an outer layer of the film. The outer layer of the film comprises a blend of a maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene and polypropylene homopolymer. The multilayer structure can exhibit an improved bonding strength between the outer layer and the metal layer in comparison to other multilayer structures.
