Abstract: A method of operating exhaust gas recirculation pump for an internal combustion engine including: providing an EGR pump assembly including an electric motor coupled to a roots device having rotors, the EGR pump operably connected to an internal combustion engine; providing an system controller; providing an EGR control unit linked to the EGR pump assembly; sending a speed command from the system controller to the EGR control unit; determining if a motor temperature and module temperature is within a predetermined target; outputting a desired speed signal; determining if a motor speed is within a predetermined target; determining if a motor voltage is within a predetermined target; and outputting a current to the electric motor controlling the speed of the electric motor and regulating an EGR mass flow rate.

Abstract: An internal combustion engine includes a cam-actuated rocker arm assembly with a solenoid-actuated latch that provides for cylinder deactivation or variable valve actuation. The solenoid is in a position where its inductance varies significantly in relation to the position of a latch pin as it translates between latching and non-latching configurations. A sensor is positioned to monitor a current or a voltage in a circuit that includes the solenoid. The sensor data is analyzed to provide diagnostic information relating to the operation of the rocker arm assembly.

Abstract: Exhaust gas recirculation pump (30) for an internal combustion engine that includes an electric motor (32) disposed within a housing (36). A Roots device (38) is coupled to the electric motor (32) and includes a housing (40) defining an internal volume (42) in which rotors (44) are disposed and are connected to the electric motor (32). The electric motor housing (36) includes a coolant path (48) formed therein which extends from a coolant inlet (58) to a coolant outlet (78), both coupled to an engine coolant circulation system. The housing includes an oil path (108) formed therein. The oil path includes an oil inlet (110) extending to at least one oil outlet (112). The oil inlet and outlet are coupled to an engine oil circulation system wherein the oil path (108) lubricates bearings (100) and a transmission assembly (46) of the exhaust gas recirculation pump (30).

Abstract: An exhaust gas recirculation pump system for an internal combustion engine includes an EGR gas source and an electric motor assembly. A roots device is coupled to the electric motor. The roots device includes a housing defining an internal volume wherein the housing includes a radial inlet port receiving the EGR gas source and an outlet port expelling the EGR gas from the housing. Rotors are disposed in the internal volume and connected to the electric motor. A transmission housing is attached to the housing. The transmission housing includes journals formed therein receiving bearings that support the rotors on only a single end of the rotors.

Abstract: A hydraulically-actuated device comprises a self-contained fluid reservoir comprising a tank for receiving a fluid, a reservoir port, and a flexible diaphragm. An actuation member comprises a hydraulically actuated piston in a cylinder. A pump case comprises an inlet port and an outlet port, the inlet port in fluid communication with the reservoir port, and the outlet port in fluid communication with the actuation member. A pump is within the pump case. The pump can be a reversible pump. The flexible diaphragm can flex in to the fluid reservoir when the pump transfers a fluid from the fluid reservoir to the actuation member and can flex away from the fluid reservoir when the pump transfers fluid from the actuation member to the fluid reservoir. The flexible diaphragm can hermetically seal a fluid within the fluid reservoir and have a second side in communication with atmospheric pressure.
