    Abstract: A method and an apparatus for selective discovery using a customer category in a device-to-device (D2D) communication service is disclosed. A method of selectively discovering service providing devices that provide services via D2D communication using a mobile communication network includes receiving, by a server for managing information about the service providing devices, information about a user equipment from the user equipment, verifying whether the user equipment corresponds to a preset customer category using the received information about the user equipment based on a service customer category table including information about a customer category that is the information about the user equipment provided with the services of the service providing devices, and selectively transmitting information about the services provided by the service providing devices to the user equipment based on a verification result.
