    Abstract: A conveying system for a hydrostatic cooker having carrier bars mounted on a processing conveyor of predetermined pitch, and having removable adapters for adapting carriers to controllably handle a wide range of container sizes, including easily deformable containers such as aluminum or plastic containers supported on their ends. The adapters are removably mounted on the carrier bars and have a curved camming surface adapted to cam containers that are supported on their ends into positions where they will not be pinched by the articulating carrier bars. The adapters may be of different sizes and/or may be mounted on only selected ones of the carrier bars so that a single-processing conveyor will be capable of simultaneously handling more than one size range of containers.

    Abstract: A series of ferromagnetic articles to be turned 90* are moved by an inclined conveyor along a linear path over a deadplate and between two turning drums having resilient peripheral surfaces shaped to conform to the curvature of the contacted surfaces of the articles being turned. One of the drums is driven at a higher speed than the other drum and has its axis of rotation disposed forwardly of a plane which is perpendicular to the linear path and has the axis of rotation of the other drum lying therein thereby providing an angular space or gap between one end of the article being turned and the next following article so that the resilient material on the high-speed drum will enter the space. The discharge edge of the deadplate is angled so as to be parallel to the partially turned articles causing both ends of each article to move off the deadplate onto the conveyor at the same time. A magnetic stabilizing conveyor is positioned to grip one end of each article as the article completes its turn.

    Abstract: An orienting apparatus for orienting a spaced series of containers while moving along a path at high speed between a position wherein their axes extend transversely of the path to a position wherein their axes are in alignment. Singulated containers are received with their axes extended transversely of the path. Each container has one of its ends received on a dead plate and has its other end received on an endless turning conveyor having a high coefficient of friction and being driven at a higher speed than that of the incoming containers. A stationary magnet is disposed under the turning conveyor causing said other end of each container to be firmly gripped by said turning conveyor thereby turning the containers to a position wherein their axes are aligned. Guide means are provided to deflect the aligned containers transversely off the turning conveyor onto a take-away conveyor.

    Abstract: A cooking and cooling apparatus having at least one housing with closed end walls and at least one elongated slot in the cylindrical wall to permit passage of rows of containers therethrough. Conveyor-supporting means are provided in the housing for supporting a conveyor so that a portion of the conveyor will assume a spiral configuration in the housing. Closure means are selectively moved between closed and open positions so that the rows of containers can be fed into the housing, be processed under superatmospheric conditions, and then be discharged from the housing.
