Abstract: A hot stamping system includes a controller programmed to alter a coolant flow rate, without altering cycle time, in an active cooling system of a die arrangement, configured to hot stamp metal into components, based on an amount of heat transferred from the components to the active cooling system such that a grain structure of the components transitions from an austenitic state to a martensitic state while the die arrangement is closed.

Abstract: The present disclosure is generally directed toward a high volume manufacturing method for forming high strength aluminum parts. The method includes acquiring material blanks that are made of 7xxx series aluminum alloy, heating the blanks to a solvus temperature of the material, and stamping and quenching the heated blanks to form multiple parts. The parts are cooled to a second temperature lower than the solvus temperature during the quenching operation. The method further includes performing one or more structural modifications of the parts within a set time period that is less than or equal to 24 hours. The method further includes racking the parts with a gap defined between two adjacent parts, artificially aging the parts with an industrial oven, and pretreating the parts with a chemical solution.

Abstract: A roller transport assembly includes a cart assembly and a roller carriage assembly. The roller carriage assembly is slidably mounted to the cart assembly and has at least one chamber for housing a roller. Each of the chambers includes a linear rail extending along a first axis and a roller coupling device attached to and slidable along the linear rail. The roller coupling device is operable to couple to the roller and move the roller along the first axis adjacent and parallel with the linear rail.

Abstract: A method includes obtaining stamping system data from a stamping system data controller and vibration data from one or more vibration sensors disposed at the conduit; selecting a baseline vibration threshold and a frequency filter from among a plurality of frequency filters based on the stamping system data; generating a plurality of measured vibration values based on the vibration data and the frequency filter, where each measured vibration value from among the plurality of measured vibration values is associated with a given iteration from among a plurality of iterations of a stamping process; determining whether the conduit is in an obstructed state based on a comparison between a set of measured vibration values from among the plurality of measured vibration values and the baseline vibration threshold; and performing a corrective action in response to the conduit being in the obstructed state.

Abstract: A process for pre-conditioning a hot stamped part is provided. The process includes continuously annealing a boron steel material having an aluminum coating for a predetermined time and at a predetermined temperature such that less than 10 weight % Iron (Fe) is in the aluminum coating and AlSi pockets are formed in the aluminum coating prior to a subsequent hot stamping process, wherein the predetermined time and temperature are a function of a thickness of the boron steel material.

Abstract: A method of treating a blank is provided. The method includes moving a blank through a first section of a furnace at an inter-critical temperature and through a second section of the furnace at a critical temperature greater than the inter-critical temperature before hot stamping the blank. Movement of the blank from the first section to the second section of the furnace is delayed during a hot stamping line stoppage. The blank is in the first section of the furnace for a first time period and in the second section of the furnace a second time period less than the first time period. Also, the first section of the furnace may have a first length and in the second section of the furnace may have a second length that is less than the first length.

Abstract: A method of monitoring operation of a shredder or health of a shredder component includes: setting a profile of a selected parameter of the shredder, wherein the profile includes a nominal value, a tolerance of the nominal value, and a predetermined range of the selected parameter outside the tolerance; obtaining an actual value of the selected parameter; comparing the actual value with the profile of the selected parameter; determining the operational condition of the shredder based on a comparison between the actual value and the profile of the selected parameter. The profile is obtained based on experimental data, statistics, or machine learning.
