[Class 46] Relates to means for connecting shorter hollow filtering-elements together end-to-end so that they may serve as a single layer element. The device is applicable for building up an element in sections, where space would prevent its insertion or removal as a whole. Filter elements 10, 11, each comprise a perforated outer wall, end walls 12, and a perforated central tube 13 and are packed with filtering material. They are arranged end-to-end with a gasket 16 between and are connected by a tubular member 17, split longitudinally at 18, and having on the outer surface a central rib 19 and tapering ribs 22 at the ends. The member extends into the adjacent end of the tubes 13 so that spring fingers 15, formed on the ends 12 and extending into the tubes 13 grip between the ribs.
