Provided are an ultrasound diagnostic system and a control method of the ultrasound diagnostic system capable of performing advanced measurement, report creation, and the like even while improving operability and mobility of an ultrasound probe. An ultrasound probe, a portable terminal, and a diagnostic apparatus are wirelessly connected to each other, the ultrasound probe has a probe memory, the ultrasound probe acquires echo data, including echo information before becoming an ultrasound image, through transmission and reception of an ultrasound wave with respect to a subject and stores the acquired echo data in the probe memory, the portable terminal controls the ultrasound probe and the diagnostic apparatus such that the echo data stored in the probe memory is wirelessly transmitted from the ultrasound probe to the diagnostic apparatus, and the diagnostic apparatus performs ultrasound diagnosis based on the echo data wirelessly transmitted from the ultrasound probe.

The ultrasound diagnostic apparatus, ultrasound image generation apparatus and method transmit ultrasound waves to a subject into which a puncture tool is inserted, receive reflected waves reflected from the subject and the puncture tool, and generate echo signals of time-sequential frames based on the received reflected waves, and generate an ultrasound image of the subject based on the generated echo signals. These apparatus and method generate a differential echo signal between time-sequential frames from the echo signals, perform a tip detection process based on the differential echo signal to thereby detect at least one tip candidate including a tip end of the puncture tool, highlight a tip candidate of the puncture tool detected to thereby generate a tip image, and display the tip image of the highlighted puncture tool so as to be superimposed on the generated ultrasound image.

An insertion needle includes an outer needle and an inner needle, and the inner needle includes a light emitting portion and a photoacoustic wave generating portion. An insertion and removal detection unit detects that the inner needle of the insertion needle has been removed from the outer needle. In a case where it is detected that the inner needle has been removed, a processing switching unit changes the image display so as to be different from the image display before it is detected that the inner needle has been removed.
