The present invention provides a circularly polarizing plate capable of reducing the amount of change in tint and a difference in reflectivity while achieving thinning of a display device and a display device having the same. The circularly polarizing plate of the present invention includes a polarizer, a transparent support, an optically anisotropic layer including a liquid crystal compound in this order, in which the optically anisotropic layer satisfies Expression (1) and the transparent support has a thickness of 50 μm or less and satisfied Expression (2), 100≦Re(550)≦180 nm . . . (1) and 1.00≦R≦1.20 . . . (2), in Expression (1), Re(550) represents an in-plane retardation of the optically anisotropic layer at a wavelength of 550 nm and in Expression (2), R represents a ratio between a maximum value and a minimum value of modulus of elasticity of the transparent support.

Provided are a phase difference film that has a small change in tint in a case where the phase difference film is combined with a polarizer and then applied as a circularly polarizing plate to a display device, and the display device is observed from an oblique direction at all azimuthal angles; as well as a circularly polarizing plate and a display device. The phase difference film includes a first optically anisotropic layer, a second optically anisotropic layer, a third optically anisotropic layer, and a fourth optically anisotropic layer in this order, in which the first optically anisotropic layer is a C-plate, the second optically anisotropic layer is an A-plate, the third optically anisotropic layer is a layer formed by fixing a liquid crystal compound twist-aligned along a helical axis extending in a thickness direction, and the first, second third, and fourth optically anisotropic layers have a predetermined configuration.

An optical laminate exhibits a change in tint when applied to a display device as a circularly polarizing plate in combination with a polarizer, and the display device is observed from an oblique direction at all azimuthal angles. A circularly polarizing plate, an organic electroluminescent display device, and a display device, each use the optical laminate. The circularly polarizing plate has a polarizer and an optical laminate which has, from the polarizer side, a first positive C-plate, a positive A-plate, and a λ/4 plate, an in-plane slow axis of the positive A-plate and an absorption axis of the polarizer are parallel to each other, an angle formed by the in-plane slow axis of the positive A-plate and an in-plane slow axis of the λ/4 plate is 45°±10°, and a difference in refractive index between the first positive C-plate and the positive A-plate is 0.08 or less.

There are provided a circularly polarizing plate which includes an optically anisotropic layer formed by using a discotic liquid crystal compound and an optically anisotropic layer formed by using a rod-like liquid crystal compound, inhibits an alignment defect of the rod-like liquid crystal compound, and has excellent visibility. The circularly polarizing plate has an optical laminate and a polarizing film.
