    摘要: A light barrier detects an object which interrupts a beam of light of the light barrier. A light transmitter transmits a light beam in the direction of a reflector and a light receiver receives a reflected portion of the light beam. The improved light barrier has a reflector which is made as a cylindrical reflector column having a plurality of retroreflecting elements aligned toward the outer surface. The diameter of the reflector column is considerably smaller than the extent of the light beam perpendicular to the cylinder axis so that an optically effective detection beam of light is formed between the sensor and the reflector column whose cross-section at the sensor is determined by the light transmitter and, in direct proximity to the reflector column. The cross-section is determined by the areal overlap of the light beam with the reflector column.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for detecting objects has a sensor with a light source, a light receiver, and a light retroreflector between them. Light from the source is transmitted to the detector along a light transmission path from the source to the retroreflector and is reflected back to the detector along a light reflection path that substantially corresponds to the transmission path. A single lens or a pair of adjacent lenses shapes the respective light beams from both light emitted by the source and light reflected by the retroreflector in accordance with either the auto collimation principle or the double-eye principle, respectively. A polarizer and a beam splitter are arranged in the light transmission path for light from the source, and a polarization filter is arranged in the light reflection path so that light reflected by the retroreflector passes through the beam splitter and the polarization filter before it reaches the light receiver. A control unit recognizes an interruption of at least one of the light beams as the detection of an object in the light transmission and/or light reflection paths. The beam splitter is a dielectricum which has differing transmission and reflection characteristics for p-polarized light and s-polarized light.

Where the surveillance video is to be transported on a communication network, the round trip time from a video data storage server to the surveillance camera and back to the video data storage server may be monitored and periodically added to the secured video data. By checking to see whether the round trip time has changed, it may be possible to determine whether the video has been tampered with. The secured video data may also be transported over two or more paths on the network to two or more video data storage servers so that redundant copies may be stored at different primary locations. By comparing copies of the data, alteration of one of the copies may be detected.
