Abstract: A battery system for a vehicle includes a plurality of battery modules, each of the plurality of battery modules including a respective management module, and a master management module configured to communicate with the management modules and with a battery control module. Each of the management modules includes a communication interface configured to transmit data to the master management module and receive data from the master management module and a diagnostic module configured to monitor operating parameters of a respective one of the plurality of battery modules, detect a fault associated with the respective one of the plurality of battery modules based on the operating parameters, and selectively output a signal indicative of the detected fault.

Abstract: A battery cell includes an inner plastic layer, an outer plastic layer, and a middle metal layer. The inner and outer plastic layers extends along at least three of sides of the battery cell. The middle metal layer is disposed between the inner and outer plastic layers. The middle metal layer extends along the at least three sides of the battery cell and projects from at least a fourth side of the battery cell to form at least one heat dissipation tab. The at least one heat dissipation tab is configured to transfer heat to at least one cooling plate through thermal conduction. The fourth side of the battery cell connects two of the at least three sides to one another.

Abstract: A method to manage thermal propagation in an energy storage device of a battery electric vehicle is provided. The method includes operating the battery electric vehicle with a plurality of distinct battery cell module groups each separately providing electrical power to the battery electric vehicle. The method further includes, within a computerized battery cell module groups controller, monitoring conditions within the distinct battery cell module groups, determining occurrence of an abnormal event within one of a plurality of the distinct battery cell module groups based upon the monitored conditions, and controlling operation of the battery electric vehicle based upon the determined occurrence of the abnormal event.

Abstract: An assembly includes a heat exchanger with an inlet portion. an outlet portion, and at least one fluid passage fluidly coupling the inlet portion to the outlet portion. The assembly additionally includes a movable blocker element having a first position with respect to the heat exchanger and a second position with respect to the heat exchanger. In the second position the blocker element reduces cross-sectional area of the at least one fluid passage relative to the first position. The assembly further includes a passive actuator coupled to the blocker element and configured to selectively move the blocker element from the first position to the second position in response to a thermal condition being satisfied.

Abstract: A charge air cooler (CAC) condensation dispersion system including a compressor for generating a hot compressed air flow; a CAC having an inlet tank for receiving the hot compressed air flow and an outlet tank for discharging a cooled compressed air flow; a condensate pickup tube having an inlet disposed in a lower volume of space within the outlet tank and an opposite outlet; and a condensate conveyance tube having a first end connected to the outlet of the pickup tube and an opposite second in in fluid connection with the inlet of the compressor. A solenoid actuated control valve is disposed in-line with the condensate conveyance tube. A controller configured to send a signal to the solenoid valve to selectively cycle the control valve between an open state and a closed state. An in-line orifice plate is disposed adjacent the second end of the condensate conveyance tube.

Abstract: A vehicle includes a system performing a method of operating the vehicle. The system includes a battery pack, a sensor associated with the battery pack, a cooling system for cooling the battery pack, and a processor. The processor is configured to measure a battery pack parameter of the battery pack for an occurrence of a battery pack fault, measure a sensor parameter for the occurrence of a sensor fault in the sensor, measure a cooling system parameter of the cooling system for the occurrence of a cooling system fault, determine an ingress of a fluid into the battery pack based on the occurrence of the battery pack fault and one of the sensor fault and the cooling system fault, and perform an action based on the ingress of the fluid into the battery pack.
