Abstract: A method of making a battery current collector foil includes heat treating a foil sheet and mechanically roughening the heat treated foil sheet to create a surface roughness of between 2-4 μm. The heat treating and mechanical roughening of the foil sheet provides improved coating adhesion. One of an anode and cathode coating is then applied to the roughened, heat treated, foil sheet.

The plurality of panels is disposed at least partially in the interior region and is coupled to the frame. The plurality of panels includes a first panel and a second panel. The first panel includes a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface. The first surface defines a first plurality of depressions and the second surface defines a first plurality of protrusions complementary to the first plurality of depressions. The second panel includes a third surface and a fourth surface opposite the third surface. The third surface defines a second plurality of depressions. The fourth surface defines a second plurality of protrusions complementary to the first plurality of depressions. The first panel is coupled to the second panel.

Abstract: A system configured to suppress thermal runaway in a battery cell. The system includes a battery cell stack including: C cathode electrodes each including a cathode current collector, a cathode active layer arranged on the cathode current collector, and an external connector extending from the cathode current collector; A anode electrodes each including an anode current collector, an anode active layer arranged on the anode current collector, and an external connector extending from the anode current collector; and S separators. C, A, and S are integers greater than one. A chamber is configured to store a suppressant that is configured to suppress thermal runaway. A valve is configured to open in response to a thermal runaway condition at the battery cell stack to release the suppressant from the chamber to the battery cell stack.

Abstract: A pouch battery cell includes a pouch enclosure and a battery cell arranged in the pouch enclosure. A first terminal is connected to the battery cell through the pouch enclosure. A second terminal is connected to the battery cell through the pouch enclosure. A check valve includes a first gas channel in fluid communication with an inner volume of the pouch enclosure and a second gas channel. The check valve vents gas from the pouch enclosure when a difference between pressure at the first gas channel and the second gas channel is greater than a predetermined pressure difference and restricts flow of gas from the second gas channel to the first gas channel.

The method includes providing a tool including a binder defining a second step, an upper punch, and a lower tool; arranging the preform between the binder and the upper punch and the lower tool; shaping the preform using the tool; and injection molding the preform in the tool to create the composite panel.
