Abstract: A system and method of selecting a modem for cellular communications while the vehicle is in a primary propulsion off state. The method includes: detecting a transition from a primary propulsion on state to a primary propulsion off state of the vehicle; after detecting the transition from the primary propulsion on state to the primary propulsion off state, measuring one or more cellular connectivity parameters for a plurality of modems included in the vehicle; based on the cellular connectivity parameter(s), selecting a modem of the plurality of modems; after selecting the modem of the plurality of modems, then turning off non-selected modem(s) of the plurality of modems, wherein the non-selected modem(s) include the plurality of modems other than the selected modem; and sending a selected modem indication to a remote server, wherein the selected modem indication indicates to the remote server to use the selected modem when sending messages to the vehicle.

Abstract: A telematics controller, a second controller, a dual-function audio speaker, and a switch are included. The telematics controller is in communication with a first microphone. The telematics controller includes a first amplifier, and is configured to communicate with a remote facility. The second controller includes a second amplifier and a second microphone. The switch is arranged in the telematics controller, and an electrical link is arranged between the second controller and the telematics controller. The dual-function audio speaker is selectively connectable to the second amplifier via the switch and the electrical link. The dual-function audio speaker is also selectively connectable to the first amplifier via the switch. The switch is operatively controlled by the telematics controller, and the telematics controller is operative to control the switch to control the dual-function audio speaker to effect wireless audio communication between the vehicle and the remote facility.

Abstract: A system includes a main power unit providing power, user interfaces providing an indication of an event requiring communication with an external location, a telematics system providing communications related to telematics services, and a communication interface initiating communication between a vehicle and the location in response to the indication. The system also includes a wireless communication unit facilitating communication between the user interfaces and the communication interface and between the communication interface and the location, a first back-up power unit supplying power such that a touchscreen interface remains functional during disruption of power supplied, a second back-up power unit supplying power such that the user interfaces and wireless communication unit remain functional during disruption of power, and a control processor sensing a disruption of power and activating a low-power operating mode for the user interfaces and wireless communication unit when disruption of power is sensed.

Abstract: A telematics module includes modems and a modem selecting module, which communicates with a network device according to a SCTP. The modem selecting module includes RAT network and signal status modules. The RAT network module determines a RAT network availability status of each of the modems. The signal status module determines signal quality status parameters of each of the modems. The modem selecting module: determines which one of the modems has a higher data throughput based on the RAT network availability status and the signal quality status parameters of each of the modems; sets the one of the modems with the higher data throughput as an active modem and sets another modem as inactive, such that the another modem is in at least one of a standby or backup mode; and communicates with the network device via the one of the modems according to the SCTP.
