Abstract: Techniques and apparatuses are described that perform frequency compensation for a display. In aspects, a first uniformity of multiple regions of the display can be measured at a reference frequency. The display can then be driven at a second frequency and a second uniformity of the multiple regions of the display can be measured. The differences between the first and second uniformity can then be used to generate a compensation mask. XYZ domain data from the first and second uniformity measurements can be used to generate a color model characterization. The color model characterization can be used to convert the XYZ domain data into RGB data when the display is driven at the second frequency to compensate for the differences in uniformity across the multiple regions of the display.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for compensating an image to be shown on a display including an array of light-emitting pixels and a sensor arranged to receive light transmitted by adjacent light-emitting pixels. A method includes collecting, from the sensor, a luminance of light received by the sensor during an emission-on period, and a luminance of light received by the sensor during an emission-off period. The method includes calculating, by comparing the luminance during the emission-on period to the luminance during the emission-off period, a luminance of light internally reflected from the adjacent pixels and received by the sensor during the emission-on period. The method includes determining that an error between the luminance of light internally reflected and a reference luminance equals or exceeds a threshold error, and adjusting a driving voltage for driving the pixels to reduce the error.

Abstract: A method includes displaying an image on an organic light-emitting (OLED) display panel that includes a first display area having a first pixel density and a second display area having a second pixel density lower than the first pixel density, and while displaying the image, deactivating individual pixels in the first display area corresponding to a proximity of the individual pixels to the second display area such that a region of the first display area adjacent the second display area has a virtual pixel density between the first pixel density and the second pixel density.

Abstract: This document describes systems and techniques directed at zonal attenuation compensation. In aspects, a system includes a graphics processing unit configured to provide image data to a display panel. A zonal attenuation module is configured to combine a zonal attenuation mask with the image data to generate masked image data, the masked image data having a reduced brightness for portions of data corresponding to one or more regions on the display panel based on the zonal attenuation mask. An inverse zonal attenuation module is configured to apply an inverse zonal attenuation mask to the masked image data to reduce a brightness for additional portions of data corresponding to one or more additional regions on the display panel effective to offset increased brightness in the one or more additional regions on the display panel.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for dual color management for a multi-pixel density display. In one aspect, the method includes obtaining an image to be shown on a display, where the display includes both a first area that has a first pixel density and a second area that has a second pixel density that is less than the first pixel density, determining that a pixel with an initial value in the image will be displayed in the first area of the display (120), in response to determining that a pixel with the initial value in the image will be displayed in the first area of the display, determining a remapped value for the pixel in the image based on the initial value and a lookup table for the first area (130), and providing the remapped value for output on the display (150).

Abstract: A frame generation subsystem renders a sequence of frames and a display control subsystem provides a brightness control signal configured to control a brightness of frames displayed at a display panel via pulse width modulation (PWM) of the brightness control signal and determines a deviation in a duty cycle of a first PWM period of the brightness control signal from a default duty cycle resulting from a delayed rendering of a frame. The display control subsystem adjusts a duty cycle of at least a second PWM period to compensate for the deviation in the duty cycle of the first PWM period. The resulting average duty cycle of the brightness control signal over the two frame periods is approximately equal to a default duty cycle and thereby mitigates viewable flicker resulting from the duty cycle change caused by the delayed rendering.

Abstract: A burn-in compensation method and a computing device configured for burn-in compensation is disclosed. The burn-in compensation can minimize or eliminate a burn-in of an OLED display having areas with different pixel densities. Each area of the OLED display may be divided into zones that include one or more pixels and a burn-in factor may be computed for the zones. A limiting burn-in factor may be determined from a limiting zone that exhibits the highest burn-in. Other zones with burn-in factors that area significantly different from the limiting burn-in factor can be adjusted so that the pixels in the adjusted zones can be driven to radiate similar light at a power similar to the liming zone. The burn-in compensation may be performed for each area and a transition region may be created between areas to minimize light artifacts after burn-in compensation.
