An anchor assembly may be used for interconnecting a downhole tubular member with a packer affixed within a well bore. The anchor assembly may include a mandrel fixedly secured to production tubing, and a collet mechanism axially movable relative to the mandrel. The collet mechanism may have a plurality of axially extending collet fingers each having a first plurality of threads for mating engagement with the packer mandrel threads and a second plurality of threads for mating engagement with the anchor assembly mandrel threads. A sealed member is provided for sealing engagement between the mandrel and the downhole packer. The anchor assembly of the present invention allows substantial axial forces to be transmitted between the production tubing and the set packer without risking collapse of the packer mandrel or failure of the bearing surfaces between the production tubing mandrel and the collet mechanism.

A liner hanger assembly structurally interconnects a casing within a bore hole and a tubular liner suspended from the casing. The hanger body includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced piston bores. A plurality of slips are provided circumferentially about, the hanger body for gripping engagement with an internal surface of the casing. A plurality of pistons are each housed within a respective piston bore and are movably responsive to internal pressure within the hanger body. A sleeve is axially movable with respect to the hanger body in response to axial movement of the plurality of pistons. The sleeve is interconnected with each of the plurality of slips to cause radially outward movement of the slips in response to movement of the pistons. The liner hanger assembly has a high fluid pressure rating for ensuring reliable gripping engagement with the casing, yet creates a comparatively low fluid restriction in the annulus between the casing and the liner.

An improved setting tool is provided for positioning, setting, and releasing a liner in a subterranean wellbore. The setting tool includes a plurality of fingers, each biased for locking engagement with axially spaced recesses provided in the wall of the tool mandrel axially above a lowermost position of the liner hanger connecting nut. The fingers are automatically forced upward into a release position when interference rollers move radially out of their respective recesses and separate a plurality of axially movable sleeves. Premature release of the liner is avoided by positioning the recesses in the mandrel such that the fingers are in a lock position when the tool string is either in tension or compression. The liner can be rotated after setting the liner hanger, so that the setting tool and drill string can thereafter be reliably retrieved by simple axial pick-up.

A seal apparatus is provided for use in a subterranean wellbore having a wellbore tubular disposed therein that defines a wellbore surface. A conveyance tubular is provided, which is positionable within the subterranean wellbore. A sealing ring is provided, and disposed about at least a portion of the conveyance tubular. The sealing ring has a first surface proximate the conveyance tubular and a second surface which is removed in distance from the conveyance tubular. The second surface defines a sealing surface, and includes a plurality of portions, with selected ones of the plurality of portions of the sealing ring extending radially from the conveyance tubular in at least one radial dimension. The selected portions define at least one metal seal point for selectively and sealingly engaging the wellbore surface. The seal apparatus is operable in a plurality of modes, including a running mode of operation and a sealing mode of operation. In the running mode of operation, the seal ring is maintained in a radially-reduced position, out of engagement with the wellbore surface. In the sealing mode of operation, the at least one metal seal point of the sealing ring is in sealing metal-to-metal engagement with the wellbore surface, providing a fluid-tight seal at a selected location between the conveyance tubular and the wellbore tubular. Also provided is an actuator member, which is selectively and remotely actuable, for urging the sealing ring between the running and sealing modes of operation.
