摘要: A method of making a transparent magnetic recording layer which comprises forming a concentrated aqueous magnetic dispersion (A) of from 10 to 50 percent by weight ferromagnetic particles having a specific surface area of at least 30 m.sup.2 /gm and from 0.5 to 20 percent by weight of a dispersing agent; adding the concentrated aqueous magnetic dispersion (A) to a viscosity increasing hydrophilic polymer in water (B) such that the concentration of the hydrophilic cobinder is from 0.5 to 3 percent by weight based on the total weight of (A) and (B); diluting the resulting dispersion (A) plus (B) with water to give a dispersion (C) having a concentration of from 0.5 to 5 percent by weight of ferromagnetic particles; preparing a final dispersion by adding to the dispersion (C) from 20 to 200 parts per 100 parts of dispersion (C) of an aqueous deionized gelatin solution having a pH value from 7 to 10 and containing from 2 to 15 percent by weight of gelatin and coating the final dispersion onto a substrate to give a dry coverage of from 700 mg/m.sup.2 to 3000 mg/m.sup.2 of solids.

摘要: Disclosed are various embodiments for generating classifications for items from normalized item attributes. Multiple attribute options are maintained for an item. Each of the attribute options is associated with a respective range of values on a normalized scale for an attribute. Multiple item classifications are generated for one of the attribute options by mapping the respective range of values for the one of the attribute options to one or more item classifications on each of multiple scales of classification for the attribute.

摘要: A multilayer compensator includes one or more polymeric first layers and one or more polymeric second layers. The first layers comprise a polymer having an out-of-plane birefringence between −0.005 and +0.005. The second layers comprise an amorphous polymer having an out-of-plane birefringence that is either less than −0.005 or greater than +0.005. The overall in-plane retardation of the multilayer compensator is greater than 20 nm, and the out-of-plane retardation is more negative than −20 nm or more positive than +20 nm. The amorphous polymer of the second layer(s) has a glass transition temperature (Tg) such that 110° C.≦Tg≦180° C. when the Rth of the multilayer compensator is more negative than −20 nm, and 100° C.≦Tg≦160° C. when the Rth of the multilayer compensator is more positive than +20 nm.

摘要: A lithographic imaging member, such as a printing plate, has a support having thereon an ink-accepting melanophilic layer and an ink-rejecting siloxane surface melanophobic layer. Within the printing plate is a photothermal conversion material capable of converting irradiation, such as IR radiation, to heat in exposed regions. Also within one of the layers is a compound that upon imaging releases a moiety that facilitates degradation of the surface melanophobic layer. The released moiety can be fluoride ion or a fluoride ion-containing compound. In some imaging members, a barrier layer may be interposed between the two other layers. Such imaging members can be digitally imaged and used for printing without post-imaging processing.

摘要: Disclosed are various embodiments for searching for items in a catalog using normalized item attributes. A range of values on a normalized scale is determined for an option for an attribute associated with a representative item. The range of values of the representative item is correlated with a first unit on a first scale of item classification. Multiple items are identified based at least in part on the option for the attribute. Each of the items is associated with a respective option for the attribute that has a respective range of values on the normalized scale that overlaps the range of values of the representative item. The respective range of values of one or more of the items is correlated with a second unit on a second scale of item classification.

摘要: Flexographic printing plates and other relief images can be formed from a laser-ablatable element having a laser-ablatable layer that is at least 20 μm in thickness. The laser-ablatable layer includes a film-forming material that is a laser-laser-ablatable material or the film-forming material has dispersed therein a laser-ablatable material. The laser-ablatable material is a polymeric material that when heated to 300° C. at a rate of 10° C./minute, loses at least 60% of its mass to form at least one predominant low molecular weight product. The element can be imaged by ablation at an energy of at least 1 J/cm2 to provide a relief image.
