摘要: A broadband device (105) can detect a proximate narrowband transmission (152) from a narrowband communication device (145). The narrowband transmission (152) can be in close enough proximity (155) to at least one bearer channel of the broadband device (105) to result in interference on the narrowband reception (152) when the broadband device (105) is transmitting and the narrowband communication device (145) is concurrently receiving. Responsive to the detecting, the broadband device (105) can gate a broadband transmission (142) to ensure the broadband transmission (142) does not interfere with the proximate narrowband reception (152). In absence of detecting the narrowband transmission (152), the broadband transmission (142) from the broadband device (105) would not be gated.

摘要: Disclosed are methods and systems for controlling network selection between a current wireless network and a higher-priority wireless network. A subscriber station determines, while connected to a current wireless network, whether it is within a coverage area of a higher-priority wireless network and whether a current traffic data load is indicative of lower-priority background traffic or higher-priority foreground traffic. Responsive to determining that it is within the coverage area of the higher-priority wireless network and that the current traffic data load is indicative of lower-priority background traffic, the subscriber station halts at least the lower-priority background traffic for a predetermined amount of time sufficient to effect a release of a radio resource control (RRC) connection with the current wireless network and searches for and connects to the higher-priority wireless network.

摘要: A method of improving hard handoffs in a communication system comprising a source base station (BS) 114, a target BS 106 and a mobile switching center (MSC) 104. In particular, when a handoff is needed, a requested service option and a list of service options supported by a mobile station (MS) 202 are communicated from the source BS to the target BS. Upon receiving a handoff request message, the target base station selects either the requested service option or an alternate service option. The alternate service option is chosen based on one or more of the MS's service option capabilities, service option priorities, and resources available in the target BS. The selected service option is communicated to the source BS and the MS.

摘要: A device for measuring the water content in small samples of an ink-water mixture. The sample is used as the dielectric for a capacitor cell which includes inner and outer concentric electrodes. The ink sample fills a gap between the electrodes, thereby controlling the total capacitance of the cell. The cell is connected as part of an oscillator circuit, the output frequency of which varies in a known manner with the dielectric constant of the ink mixture, which in turn is determined by the mixture's water content. A display is provided which varies with the frequency of the output signal, thereby indicating the sample's water content. A mechanism is provided for conveniently removing the inner electrode so that a sample can be introduced, and then returning the inner electrode so that the sample floods the gap between the two electrodes. The ends of the electrodes are enclosed by conductive members to contain stray electric field, while thin, removable insulative liners are provided for the opposed electrode surfaces to impede electrolysis and double layer effects, and to facilitate cleaning.
