Abstract:
According to one embodiment, a thermostat includes a rear member and a front assembly that is couplable with the rear member. The front assembly includes a display (e.g., LCD) for displaying information to a user. The thermostat also includes an activatable switch and a motion control assembly that is positioned between the rear member and the front assembly. The motion control assembly controls the motion of the front assembly into contact with the switch and includes a pivot assembly that is configured to provide one or more pivot points about which the front assembly pivots when pressed axially inward and a spring member that contacts the rear member and the front assembly at a plurality of positions to stabilize the front assembly relative to the rear member. The spring member axially biases the front assembly away from the rear member.
Abstract:
A non-black dead front display assembly includes a display frame, a backlight system supported by the frame, the backlight system configured to generate backlight rays, a light mask disposed on the backlight system, a light mask disposed on the backlight system, the light mask configured to transmit or to block the backlight rays in response to a control signal, and a film positioned over the light mask, the film configured to reflect ambient light rays and to scatter the backlight rays transmitted through the light mask, the scattered backlight rays causing a first portion of the film to glow while a second portion of the film appears non-glowing.
Abstract:
According to one embodiment, a thermostat display includes a circular head unit and an n-sided polygonal shaped liquid crystal display (LCD) that is positioned within an interior region of the circular head unit. The LCD has a more circular profile than a rectangular shaped LCD and includes an active display portion that displays information to a user and a non-active portion that surrounds the active display portion. The LCD is positioned within the interior region of the circular head unit so that the active display portion is positioned roughly centrally relative to the circular head unit. A plurality of additional components are also positioned within the interior region of the circular head unit and radially outward of the LCD.

Abstract:
A thermostat may include a proximity sensor and a temperature sensor. The thermostat may also include a sensor mount assembly containing the proximity sensor, the temperature sensor, and a first alignment feature. The thermostat may additionally include a lens assembly having a first area, a second area, and a second alignment feature, where the second area includes a Fresnel lens, and the first area is thinner than the second area. The thermostat may further include a front cover where the outward-facing surface of the lens assembly is shaped to continuously conform to a curvature of the front cover. The thermostat may also include a frame member with third and fourth alignment features configured for respective matable alignment with the first and second alignment features and configured such that the proximity sensor and the temperature sensor are maintained in generally close, non-touching proximity to the lens assembly, the first area of the lens assembly being aligned with the proximity sensor, and the second area of the lens assembly being aligned with the temperature sensor.
