Abstract:
A stent crimping tool for firmly and uniformly crimping a stent onto a balloon catheter. The stent crimping tool is constructed of three orthogonally arranged semi-circular shaped cams rotatably mounted on a common base. Two cams are disposed horizontally side-by-side and one cam is vertically disposed. Rotation of the three cams is synchronized by interacting racks on each cam. A groove is formed into the outer circumference of each cam and the three cams are arranged on the base, which also includes a groove, to collectively form an axial space in which a stent-catheter assembly is inserted. Rotation of the cams draws the uncrimped stent and catheter into the axial space in which the stent is crimped onto the balloon catheter by the compressive forces exerted by the grooves of the cams and the base.
Abstract:
A medical diagnostic apparatus including a catheter and a probe assembly coupled to the catheter and a method involving the use of a catheter and a probe assembly coupled to the catheter. The probe assembly is capable of detecting a chemical analyte. The probe assembly includes a detection probe located within the catheter. The detection probe can be fixedly attached to the catheter or slideable within the catheter.
Abstract:
A catheter and method of using same for support or exchange of a guidewire during a percutaneous procedure which has at least one lumen in an elongate shaft with a proximal port and a distal port in fluid communication via an inner lumen. The catheter has a longitudinal slit in the inner lumen beginning at the proximal end of the elongate shaft and extends distally. An elongate support member is secured to the elongate shaft to provide axial rigidity to the catheter. Optionally, a second inner lumen is disposed within the elongate shaft adjacent the aforementioned inner lumen which has an intermediate port disposed distally of the proximal end of the elongate shaft.
Abstract:
An endovascular implant, stent or other medical device formed from a polymeric material, compounded with one or more materials to render the stent visible under both magnetic resonance imaging and x-ray based fluoroscopy procedures. The stent is adaptable to be placed in any body lumen and is contemplated to be a permanent or a biodegradeable implant.
Abstract:
A device for enabling substantially uniform and tight crimping of an intravascular stent onto a balloon catheter assembly. The stent crimping device includes at least one compressible and resiliently expandable loop portion, that is expandable radially outwardly to enable supporting of the stent and catheter assembly thereon, and compressible radially inwardly to substantially uniformly and tightly crimp the stent onto the balloon catheter assembly.
Abstract:
Progesterone-containing compositions and devices that can maintain opening of a body passageway are described. One aspect of the invention provides a therapeutically effective (e.g., relaxative, anti-oxidative, anti-restenotic, anti-angiogenic, anti-neoplastic, anti-cancerous, anti-precancerous and/or anti-thrombotic) composition or formulation containing progesterone and optionally vitamin E and/or conjugated linoleic acid. Another aspect of the invention provides a drug eluting device, such as a drug eluting stent, with at least one coating layer comprising a progesterone composition that can minimize or eliminate inflammation, thrombosis, restenosis, neo-intimal hyperplasia, rupturing of vulnerable plaque, and/or other effects related to device implantation, treatment, or interaction. Other aspects of the invention provide for methods of using such compositions, formulations, and devices.
Abstract:
The emboli protection system provides one or more inflatable blocking balloons for isolation of a section of a blood vessel to prevent migration of emboli from the section during an interventional procedure, and fluid infusion and evacuation ports for flushing emboli from the isolated section. One embodiment provides for a distal blocking balloon catheter, over which an interventional device can be introduced, and a proximal blocking balloon catheter to be introduced over the interventional device for isolating a portion of a blood vessel to be treated. The blocking balloons can be perforated to provide the infusion ports, and thrombolytic inflation fluid may be used to break down and dissolve thrombus and plaque in the isolated portion of the blood vessel. The interventional therapeutic device such as an angioplasty balloon catheter may be incorporated into the distal blocking balloon catheter, or the distal and blocking proximal balloon catheters can be incorporated with the interventional therapeutic device together in one device. Infusion ports may also be provided in either or both of the distal and proximal blocking catheters.

Abstract:
A regrooming device for a balloon catheter, comprising a tubular member having a proximal section, a distal section, and an inner lumen extending therein configured to receive a balloon of a balloon catheter; and a mandrel disposed within the inner lumen and having a proximal end configured to enter a guide wire lumen at a distal section of the balloon catheter to facilitate guiding the distal section of the catheter into the inner lumen of the regrooming device, and a distal end secured to the distal section of the tubular member.
