摘要: Power is supplied to an information handling system chipset with a single voltage regulator having dual phases. A first phase of the voltage regulator provides power to a low power state power rail in an independent mode to support a low power state, such as a suspend or hibernate state. A second phase of the voltage regulator provides power to a run power state power rail in combination with the first phase by activation of a switch, such as a MOSFET load switch, that connects the low power state power rail and the run power state power rail. Voltage sensed from both power rails is applied to control voltage output so that the run power state power rail is maintained within more precise constraints than the low power state power rail.

摘要: A current limiting MOSFET monitors power applied to a direct current boost regulator that powers an LED backlight to automatically shut off power to the boost regulator if the current exceeds a predetermined amount. An embedded controller interfaces with the current limiting MOSFET for normal control of operation of the boost regulator by turning the MOSFET on and off. An overcurrent alert is communicated from the MOSFET to the embedded controller if the current exceeds the predetermined amount so that the embedded controller shuts off power to the boost regulator and indicates the failure to an end user.

摘要: A method and associated system are disclosed for verifying charging failures for smart batteries by measuring input charging voltage and associated systems. In one embodiment, a determination is made whether or not a charging current is indicative of a battery failure by utilizing an analog-to-digital (A/D) port to measure the input charging voltage. As long as the measured input charging voltage is below the cell pack voltage or some set voltage value, whichever is higher, the BMU considers a charging current detection to be a false failure indication. If the measured charging voltage is above the cell pack voltage and the set voltage value, the BMU considers the charging current detection to be a positive failure indication. The BMU can then disable the battery or implement other verification steps before disabling the battery, as desired.

摘要: An information handling system display backlight illuminates an image with plural strings of LEDs driven by a backlight driver integrated circuit with pulse width modulation. A string detection module detects the number of active LED strings and divides the time period by number of active LED strings into an equal number of time delays or shifts so that the backlight driver sequentially turns on an LED string at a predetermined time period. The active number of LED strings is detected by reading a total number of LED strings from a management interface and subtracting from the total number any detected failed LED strings or any LED strings powered down to reduce power consumption.

摘要: A method and circuit to output adaptive drive voltages within information handling systems is disclosed. According to one aspect of the disclosure, a method of outputting power within an information handling system can include sensing a load current of a power output stage operable to employ more than one drive voltage level. The method can also include comparing the load current to a threshold current setting, and selecting a first output drive voltage from a plurality of input drive voltages in response to comparing the load current to the threshold current setting. The method can also include coupling the first output drive voltage to the power output stage.
