Abstract: A distributed power network includes a power bus infrastructure distributed over a region with node points provided to interface with controllable power nodes. Each power node can be connected to an external power device such as a DC power sources, a DC power load, or a rechargeable DC battery. The power nodes form a communication network and cooperate with each other to receive input power from DC power sources and or rechargeable DC batteries connected to the power bus infrastructure and distribute the power received therefrom to the power bus infrastructure for distribution to the DC power loads and to rechargeable DC batteries.

Abstract: An electric system is disclosed. The electric system comprises a battery subassembly, a current limiter, a non-current-limiting path in parallel with the current limiter, a battery management system (BMS) adapted for causing the battery assembly to energize the electric system using the current limiter upon a start of a precharge phase, and an electric vehicle module (EVM) communicatively coupled to the BMS. The EVM is adapted for causing the battery assembly to energize the electric system using the non-current-limiting path following a completion of the precharge phase. The electric system may be integrated in an electric vehicle. A method for energizing an electric system is also disclosed.

Abstract: A power transmission network includes converters interconnected via electrical elements, at least one power flow router, and a controller. Each power flow router being operatively connected to the electrical elements, each power flow router configured to selectively control current flow in the electrical elements so as to direct power between two or more of the plurality of converters. The controller configured to selectively control the converters and each power flow router to control power flow in the power transmission network The controller is configured to carry out a mathematical optimisation to determine optimal operating set points of the converters; after carrying out the mathematical optimisation, carry out another mathematical optimisation to determine optimal current flows in the electrical elements; and control the converters in accordance with each determined optimal operating set point, and control the power flow router(s) to achieve each determined optimal current flow in the electrical elements.

Abstract: There is provided an electrical assembly for use in an electrical system. The electrical assembly comprises a DC path. The DC path includes: a DC power transmission medium; and a current commutation device, the current commutation device including a switching element and an energy absorbing element, the switching element arranged to permit a current flowing, in use, through the DC path to flow through the switching element and at the same time bypass the energy absorbing element, wherein the electrical assembly further includes a control unit programmed to selectively control the switching of the switching element to commutate the current directly from the switching element to the energy absorbing element in order to increase the resultant voltage drop caused by the flow of direct current through the DC path in which the current commutation device is connected and thereby oppose the flow of the current through the DC path.
