Abstract: In accordance with at least one aspect of this disclosure, a system includes a rotor configured to rotate about a rotor axis within a pump housing. In embodiments, the rotor includes, a first end face configured to interface with a stationary port plate, a plurality of vane slots defined in the rotor arranged circumferentially about the rotor axis configured to accept a respective vane therein, and a plurality of lands between each vane slot, wherein each land includes a portion of the first end face. The rotor also includes, a lubrication pad defined in the first end face of at least one land between neighboring vane slots such that the lubrication pad is fed by the neighboring vane slots to induce buildup of a lubrication film between the first end face and the stationary port plate in the lubrication pad.

Abstract: A gear pump includes a pair of gears having meshed teeth. One of the gears is configured for connection to a source of drive. The gears are received within a housing. The housing has an inlet port configured for connection to a source of fluid and an outlet port. Each of the gears have a shaft rotating within the housing on a bearing on each axial side of each gear. At least one of the bearings associated with each of the pair of gears has a plurality of springs received in recesses to bias the said at least one bearing against an end face of a respective one of the pair of gears. A retention plate holds each of the plurality springs. A method of assembly is also disclosed.

Abstract: A fuel supply system includes a pump to be connected to a fuel tank. A metering valve is downstream of the pump. A control is programmed to control at least one of the pump and metering valve. The control is operable to take in a flow demand signal and a fuel pressure signal from a controller associated with a gas turbine engine. The flow demand signal is indicative of a desired flow volume and the fuel pressure signal is indicative of a desired fuel pressure. Operation conditions are identified for the at least one of said pump and the metering valve. A gas turbine engine and fuel supply system is also disclosed.

Abstract: Apparatus and associated methods relate to monitoring health of a hydraulic system. A method includes monitoring pressure within the system and determining when a potential fatigue condition may occur based on counting the number of times pressure in the system has exceeded the at least one threshold. In some embodiments, strain cycle data is calculated based on a time sequence of signals generated by a hydraulic fitting, which is indicative of strain of the hydraulic fitting. An output signal indicative of the fatigue condition determined is generated. In some embodiments, the strain data includes a number of strain cycles that the time sequence of signals crosses from below a strain threshold to above the strain threshold.

Abstract: A starter for a gas turbine engine includes a rotor shaft rotatable about an axis and includes an inner bore extending from an axial end of the rotor shaft with respect to the axis. A sun gear is on the rotor shaft. A lock nut is received against an axial end face of the sun gear and threadedly engaged with an outer diameter of the rotor shaft. A retainer is positioned to bias the nut against the axial end face and includes a projection portion threadedly engaged with the rotor shaft in the inner bore. A bolt through the projection portion is threadedly engaged with the rotor shaft.
