Abstract: Embodiments relate generally to absorbing elements in respiratory face masks. Applicants have developed a structure for respiratory masks that can both absorb moisture from the face (such as perspiration, as well as from condensed moisture in the breath), and maintain a low breath resistance (won't increase the breath resistance significantly). The structure may comprise an annular structure added to the respiratory masks for moisture management, wherein the annular structure comprises moisture absorbent materials. This structure may also be known as an absorbing element operable to absorb moisture effectively, provide a respiratory mask with improved moisture control characteristics, reduce fogging of a face shield or eyeglasses of the wearer, and reduce the amount of uncomfortable moisture buildup on the face of the wearer.

Abstract: Embodiments include systems and methods for completing a fit test on a respiratory mask A method may comprise installing a speaker within an interior cavity of the face mask, wherein the speaker communicates with an electronics unit; installing a microphone within the interior cavity of the face mask, wherein the microphone communicates with the electronics unit; generating, by the speaker, a sound during the fit test; detecting, by the microphone, sound generated by the speaker during the fit test; comparing, by the electronics unit, a detected signal from the microphone to a baseline expected sound; when the detected signal is within a certain range of the baseline expected sound, indicating to the user that the fit test is completed and passed; and when the detected signal is not within a certain range of the baseline expected sound, indicating to the user that the fit test is completed and failed.

A face mask may comprise at least one layer of filtration material. configured to filter one or more harmful substances from the air breathed by a user; at least one layer of absorbent material configured to absorb moisture exhaled by the user, wherein the at least one layer of absorbent material spans the entire inner surface area of the mask; at least one layer of waterproof material located between the at least one layer of filtration material and the at least one layer of absorbent material configured to prevent moisture from the absorbent material from contacting the filtration material; and at least one layer of anti-bacterial material located adjacent to the at least one layer of absorbent material and forming the inner surface of the mask.

Abstract: Embodiments relate generally to a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA comprising a waist pad bumper system. The waist pad bumper system may comprise a soft rubber gasket located between the waist pad and the backplate of the SCBA, operable to compress to cushion the movement of the backplate with respect to the waist pad; a hard rubber gasket located between the waist pad and the backplate operable to compress to cushion the movement of the backplate with respect to the waist pad; one or more magnets located on the waist pad; and one or more magnets located on the backplate operable to interact with the one or more magnets located on the waist pad, wherein the magnets of the waist pad have the same polarization as the magnets of the backplate and therefore repel each other.
