    摘要: A gas washing sink for use in introducing gas through a metallurgical vessel into molten metal therein includes a gas permeable refractory inner brick portion and a gas impermeable refractory outer brick portion surrounding the inner brick portion. The inner and outer brick portions define a first sink end to be exposed to the molten metal. The outer brick portion has an end face defining a second sink end to be directed away from the molten metal. A gas distribution chamber has a first end open to the inner brick portion and a second end opening onto the end face of the outer brick portion and defined thereat by an opening. A sealing surface extending concentrically of the opening has pressed thereagainst, at a pressure sufficient to achieve a seal therebetween, a closure member for closing the second end of the gas distribution chamber and having a gas inlet connection for introducing gas into the gas distribution chamber.

    摘要: An apparatus for mounting a gas washing sink in a centered manner within an opening through a perforated brick in a wall of a metallurgical vessel and for removing the sink from the perforated brick includes a support assembly to be fixedly mounted on the exterior of the wall of the metallurgical vessel adjacent the opening in the perforated brick. A fastening assembly supports the sink and is mounted with respect to the support assembly for movement relative thereto between an operating position, whereat the sink is pressed into the opening through the perforated brick in a centered manner, and a maintenance position, whereat the sink is withdrawn from the opening through the perforated brick. Structures moves the fastening assembly relative to the support assembly to the operating position. A withdrawal apparatus moves the fastening assembly relative to the support assembly from the operating position to the maintenance position.

    摘要: A gate valve includes a housing adapted to be installed in a pipeline, the housing having therethrough a flow passage, and a valve member mounted within the housing for movement between a first position, whereat the valve member closes the flow passage, and a second position, whereat the valve member opens the flow passage. The housing and valve member have axially spaced pairs of adjacent annular surfaces cooperating to define seals when the valve member is in the closed position. The housing has therein, adjacent one annular surface thereof defining at least one seal, a duct. Cooling air is introduced into this duct. The one annular surface of the housing has therein structure defining a gap for directing the cooling air from the duct against the respective annular surface of the valve member when closed or into the flow passage when the valve member is open.

    摘要: A plurality of regenerative hot blast stoves are operated under a staggered-parallel process wherein each stove is alternately operated under a fixed heating cycle wherein no cold blast is supplied to the stove and no hot blast issues therefrom and a fixed blasting cycle wherein cold blast is supplied to the stove and issues therefrom as hot blast. The initiation of the cycles of the stoves is staggered in time with respect to each other such that at any given time hot blast issues from more than one of the stoves but at different temperatures. The temperature of the hot blast issuing from the stoves is regulated to a predetermined temperature required at the blast furnace in a two-stage operation including a first stage wherein relatively cooler and warmer hot blast issuing from those stoves operating under blasting is mixed and controlled as a function of a first reference temperature greater than the temperature required at the blast furnace, and a second stage wherein cold blast is admixed with the hot blast mixture and controlled as a function of a second reference temperature equal to the temperature required at the blast furnace. Upon a lowering of the second reference temperature due to an operating requirement of the blast furnace, the first reference temperature is raised, whereby the second stage temperature regulation overlaps the first stage temperature regulation.
