A printing machine has a plurality of printing stations which print images on both major surfaces of each sheet passing through the printing machine. A reversing arrangement turns the respective sheet between two of the printing stations so that the major surface of the respective sheet having a fresh image thereon faces downwardly. A support arrangement is provided which supports this sheet during its advancement to the next following printing station, and includes a blow casing having upwardly oriented passages through which air issues in upward direction to create an air cushion between the respective sheet and the blow casing for supporting the respective sheet during its advancement. An elongated bracket is arranged upwardly of the blow casing and supports a region of the respective sheet which is devoid of the image, during the advancement of the sheet in a path portion located upwardly of the blow casing. The position of the bracket in the transverse direction of the machine is adjustable by means of a drive and a transmission which includes a transmission shaft having several sections interconnected by an elastic coupling. The blow casing is curved, and the number of the apertures per unit area within the curved portion and within the lateral portions of the blow casing exceeds that without such portions.

A printing machine which has a plurality of printing units each including several rollers is equipped with a gear train which drives at least one roller of each of the printing units. At least associated two of the gear wheels of the gear train are coaxially mounted on a common shaft, one of them being movable toward and out of contact with the other gear wheel for establishing entraining connection therewith and for permitting angular displacement of the associated gear wheels relative to one another, respectively. The angular position of the associates gear wheels is to be changed when the mode of operation of the printing machine is to be changed from first page printing mode to first and second page printing mode. The arrangement which connects and disconnects the associated wheels includes a plurality of moving units which simultaneously act on the other gear wheel and which are mounted on an annular clamping element mounted on the other side of the one gear wheel from the one gear wheel. The moving unit may include a cylinder-and-piston unit having a toothed piston rod meshing with a pinion mounted on a threaded element meshingly received in a threaded bore of the other gear wheel, or an angular displacement motor having a threaded output shaft meshingly received in such threaded bore, or a cylinder-and-piston unit having a piston rod articulated to an eccentric disk rotatably mounted on a bearing block rigid with the other gear wheel.

A compensating device, especially for railway car transformers, has a compensation receptacle including a fluid-carrying connection with the interior of the housing of the transformer. In the compensation receptacle, a compensating plate is movable along an adjusting axis under the influence of an accumulator, and is in engagement with the transformer oil carried in the compensation receptacle. A guide arrangement for controlling the movement of the compensating plate includes two sheathings slidable counter to one another. One sheathing is connected with the compensating plate. The other sheathing is connected with the stationary parts of the compensation receptacle. At least one of the sheathings cooperates with a detent surface on the compensating plate or on the compensation receptacle. The compensating device can be arranged in a railway car in the underfloor compartment. Even with high lateral or cross forces, the compensating device produces a continuously working fluid connection between the compensation receptacle and the transformer housing.
