In the detection determining apparatus, a demodulator correlates each of tiles carrying received feedback information with an orthogonal vector including a pilot symbol in each possible codeword, each tile being a predetermined number of subcarriers, and calculates the squares of the absolute values of the correlations. A codeword correlation calculator sums the squares of the absolute value of the correlations of the tiles for each possible codeword. A detection decider determines whether to perform detection on the feedback information based on the maximum of the sums.

In the apparatus, a channel encoder generates uplink fast feedback information to transmit, and outputs 3-bit codewords being set according to the fast feedback information. A noncoherent modulator modulates transmission symbols corresponding to the codewords using a noncoherent modulation scheme, and allocates the modulated transmission symbols to each of subcarrier bundles. An inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) unit IFFT-processes a transmission signal comprised of the subcarrier bundles before transmission.

A receiving apparatus includes an estimator, a channel compensator, and a demodulator. The estimator estimates channels of a desired signal and at least one interference signal, estimates noise, calculates a mean interference power of each interference signal, and calculates a mean noise power. The channel compensator channel-compensates burst data. The demodulator calculates a noise variance value by adding the mean noise power to the at least one mean interference power and creates Log Likelihood Ratio (LLR) by demodulating the channel-compensated data.

An apparatus and method for eliminating interference in a base station (BS) of a communication system. A first BS receives a first reception signal from a first mobile station located in a cell of the first base station. A second base station being adjacent to the first base station delivers decoding information of a second reception signal to the first base station, the second reception signal received from a second mobile station located in a cell of the second base station. The first BS determines whether an error exists on the second reception signal, based on the decoding information and re-generates an interference signal using the decoding information of the second reception signal when no error exists in the second reception signal, and performing interference elimination on the first reception signal using the re-generated interference signal.

The receiving method includes determining a control unit for a channel estimation using burst allocation information of selected sectors; extracting pilot symbols from received data based on the control unit; and acquiring a channel estimate value for each transmission unit by performing a Joint Channel Estimation (JCE) with the extracted pilot symbols that are based on the control unit.
