A yarn brake has a tubular brake housing with an upper and a lower end. A lower brake ring is connected to the lower end of the brake housing. A brake ring carrier is positioned in the housing at a distance above the lower brake ring and has a central axis about which it is rotatable. A spring is positioned in the brake housing between the upper end and the brake ring carrier for biasing the brake ring carrier in a downward direction. An upper brake ring is connected to the brake ring carrier so as to face the lower brake ring. A brake cartridge rests between the upper and the lower brake rings. An abutment is connected to the brake housing and extends radially into the brake housing. The brake ring carrier has a plurality of support shoulders distributed over the periphery of the brake ring whereby these support shoulders are axially spaced relative to one another. Depending on a rotational position of the brake ring carrier one of the support shoulder is supported on the abutment. The abutment is arrestable at various axial positions in the brake housing.

A yarn brake positioned within the hollow hub has a brake cartridge positioned vertically in the cylindrical housing. It includes two brake rings positioned at opposite ends of the brake cartridge. A first brake ring is axially displaceable for adjusting a braking force. The yarn brake includes an adjusting sleeve axially displaceable and rotationally fixed in the cylindrical housing. The lower end of the adjusting sleeve has a threaded portion extending axially into the area beneath the spool carrier. A transmission member including a radial actuating arm threaded onto the threaded portion of the adjusting sleeve so as to be rotatable but axially fixed. The actuating arm has a first permanent magnet located at a radially outer end of the actuating arm and positioned within an area delimited by the yarn balloon closely adjacent thereto. A second permanent magnet is positioned external to the area delimited by the yarn balloon directly opposite the first permanent magnet. The facing sides of the two permanent magnets have opposite polarity. The second permanent magnet is rotatable about the central axis along a circular arc with a guide system. A centrally controlled mechanical actuator for displacing the second permanent magnet along the circular arc for a predetermined angular distance is provided.

A transport and handling system for multi-position textile machines, in particular twisting machines, comprising a first track system, the path of which extends along the longitudinal sides of the machines, and which accommodates at least one automated handling device to perform servicing operations, and further comprising a second track systems, the path of which extends likewise along the longitudinal sides of the machines, and along which transport devices travel, which are adapted to be combined to trains and to receive working materials and/or working means. The paths of the two track systems extend parallel to each other over at least a portion such that the automated handling device is adapted to both engage with the transport devices and move past same. The automated handling device possesses a coupling drive means to carry the transport devices along portions of the path extending parallel to each other and to produce relative movements between the automated handling device and the transport devices both when the automated handling device is stopped and when it is moved.
