An arrangement for the step-by-step conveyance of printed products, such as, newspapers, magazines or the like from a removal location, wherein the printed products are supplied to the removal location by a conveying unit approximately vertically and spaced apart from each other. The arrangement includes at least one set of gripping tongs for gripping the lower ends of the printed products at the removal location. The gripping tongs are connected to a driven hub. The gripping tongs are retractably controlled by the periphery of the hub which interacts with a friction wheel arranged after the removal location. The gripping tongs extend through a space which is arranged downstream and is provided for the controlled release of the printed products. The space is defined by conveying members which are driven in the same direction.

A method and device for producing printed products wherein first primary products are supplied, respectively, fold first to successive, uniformly-spaced pockets disposed transversely to a conveying direction at a beginning of a first segment of a production path formed by feeders. Subsequently, the first primary product in each pocket is grasped at a protruding gripping edge and opened for insertion of a partial product or enclosure. A further primary product is supplied, respectively, to the successive pockets on a further segment adjoining the first segment of the production path for producing a further printed product, including partial products or enclosures, in the successive pockets.

An arrangement for charging successive pockets on a conveyor path of an insetting machine with inset products with a given edge first. A sheet feeder disposed to convey the inset products approximately perpendicular to a conveying direction of the insetting machine is provided. Above the pockets a conveyor segment ends that is disposed downstream of the sheet feeder. The conveyor segment is formed by two endless adjacent flat belts and conveys the inset products from the sheet feeder to the pockets of the insetting machine. The inset products are grasped between respective conveying surfaces of the flat belts. Deflector rollers circulate the flat belts.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method, an apparatus and a container for shipping printed matter. The method of the invention is essentially distinguished in that the printed matter reaches the respective shipping points in returnable containers adapted to its format. These returnable containers can then be used again after their return to the packaging station. The containers used in this connection are essentially distinguished in that they have free spaces extending from the container bottom to the upper container edge for access to printed matter to be placed in them. The apparatus of the invention to be used for packaging is distinguished by a magazine for receiving returnable containers stacked inside each other, from which the containers can be taken separately for loading with printed matter.

A method and apparatus for assembling printed products. The method and apparatus involve the selective delivery of the printed products to receiving devices situated in succession along a production line formed by a plurality of controlled sheet feeder stations. Printed products are selectively supplied to a receiving device at a discharge end of the production line, and transferred to a helical circulation track guiding a plurality of further receiving devices driven in synchronism with the production line through a feed path disposed between the discharge end of the production line and the circulation track. Any incomplete printed products are removed from the printed products, and replaced with replacement complete printed products by delivery of the replacement complete printed products to respective receiving devices of the circulation track corresponding to removed incomplete printed products at a feed point in the circulation track through the feed path. The feed path is thus adapted to transfer both originally complete printed products and replacement complete printed products to the circulation track.

A device is provided to combine printed products that are supplied to a folded envelope. A rotating conveying member is equipped with receiving pockets that are distributed over its circumference and can be closed and opened. The receiving pockets have an associated charging station for the envelopes and a supplying station for the enclosures on the opposite side of the conveying member as well as a subsequently connected removal station, with the charging station and the supplying station being connected by means of an undercut conveying region of the conveying member.

Partially overlapping printed sheets which are transported from an inserting or other producing or processing machine are delivered into a stacking unit which accumulates groups of overlapping sheets and dumps such groups into an intermittently operated wrapping unit wherein the groups are confined in plastic foils. The sheets which are intercepted during evacuation of a freshly formed group from the stacking unit are diverted into an accumulating unit which gathers the diverted sheets into piles and dumps the piles into a magazine for packing or for admission into one or more additional wrapping units.

In an arrangement and a method for intermediate storage of packages, a first transport path is provided to transport packages from a loading station to a transfer station. A second transport path and at least one storage surface arranged along the second transport path are provided, wherein the second transport path receives packages from the first transport path and places the packages onto the at least one storage surface for intermediate storage of the packages and unloads the packages from the at least one storage surface for transport of the packages to the transfer station, as needed.

A stream of partially overlapping paper sheets is advanced below one or more wheels which are driven by the sheets and transmit torque to one or more rotary disc cams which cooperate with a roller follower provided on an intercepting device having a pallet which can be moved into and retracted from the path of movement of oncoming leaders of successive sheets. The periods of dwell of the pallet in the path of movement of the leader of each sheet are selected in such a way that the spacing between successive leaders is equalized to match the sum of spacings of successive leaders divided by the number of such leaders. A leaf spring biases the roller follower against the periphery of peripheries of the cam or cams. The transporting unit which advances the stream past the equalizing station for the pallet of the intercepting device is driven independently of the conveyor or conveyors which deliver sheets to the transporting unit and/or of the conveyor or conveyors which receive equalized sheets from the transporting unit.
