A service provider unit automatically diagnoses problems in an Ethernet network that are associated with layers 1, 2, and/or 3 and determines whether there is a problem associated with an Ethernet gateway switch EGS. Further diagnostics can be performed to determine the layer, type, and/or location of the problem(s) based on whether there is a problem with the EGS. The diagnostic process followed depends on the types of problem(s) in the network. Once the problems have been diagnosed, an operator can be notified of the location and/or type of problem.

The present invention provides a novel method of sterilizing 2-Cyanoacrylate ester compositions using a combination of chemical and irradiation means, and the resulting novel compositions. The combination of monomeric 2-Cyanoacrylate and irradiation have a lethal effect on microbials, rendering sterilized compositions when the appropriate sterilization condition is achieved and when the method is applied to 2-Cyanoacrylates in sealed containers. Samples are sterilized using electron beam at doses as low as about 1 to about 5 Kgy.

Discosed are a process for sterilization of cyanoacrylate adhesive compositions, the compositions, comprising 2-cyanoacrylate ester monomers, so produced and a method for assaying the effectiveness of the sterilization process. The process comprises heating the adhesive composition to from about 70° C. to about 140° C. for an effective amount of time. The effectiveness of the process can be assayed by disposing bacterial spores in the cyanoacrylate monomer, exposing the composition to a dry heat sterilization process, transferring the cyanoacrylate composition to a sterile aldose solution, transferring and exposing the sample to a nutrient medium which supports germination and growth of viable spores, incubating the samples, and determining the presence or absence of growth.

The viscosities of 2-cyanoacrylate adhesive compositions are adjusted by the addition of polymeric thickeners to a preferred initial viscosity that will not increase significantly when sterilized by heating them at a temperature of no greater than about 110° C. for no more than about 120 minutes. Articles of manufacture are vials or squeezable tubes containing these compositions.
