摘要: A tracking start-and-stop determining unit of a tracking processing unit determines whether to start or stop tracking based on a predetermined condition. During tracking, a sampling unit 29 creates or eliminates particles using a probability density distribution estimated for the previous image frame. A first to nth model tracking units transit the particles according to motion models respectively assigned, and observe the likelihood of a candidate curve corresponding to each particle with respect to an edge image generated by an image processing unit. A tracking integration unit determines a motion model which causes the highest likelihood, and estimates a probability density distribution using an observation likelihood based on the motion model.

摘要: A location error determination unit determines, prior to displaying on a display device stereoscopic images including a parallax image for the left eye and a parallax image for the right eye of a subject, whether the parallax image for the left eye and the parallax image for the right eye are stereoscopic images that can be located as three-dimensional images. An error communicating unit communicates an error when it is determined that that the parallax image for the left eye and the parallax image for the right eye cannot be located as stereoscopic images or when it is determined that the range of parallax between the parallax image for the left eye and the parallax image for the right eye is not accommodated within the predetermined parallax range.

摘要: A direction-recognizing apparatus has a photographing unit, an image database, an image-recognizing unit, and a direction-recognizing unit. The database stores registered images and direction-data items associated with the registered images. The image-recognizing unit receives an input image and compares the input image with the registered images stored in the database. The image-recognizing unit selects one registered image that is identical or similar to the input image. The direction-recognizing unit recognizes a direction from the direction data associated with the registered image selected by the image-recognizing unit. The database may store N direction-data items associated with N surface segments SN of the circumferential surface of a pole 100. If so, the images registered in the database represent direction-recognition regions ASN that are larger than the N surface segments SN.

摘要: First a standard image to which a link is defined is displayed. If a user operates a input device and if the viewpoint enters into the first link boundary, and if the information indicating that a resume operation is required does not exist the first frame of moving image data is read out and displayed on the display device as a still image. If the viewpoint enters into the second link boundary, playing back and displaying of the moving image and is started. If the viewpoint moves out from the second link boundary, a frame displayed when the playback of the moving image is suspended is displayed as a still image and the resume point is stored. If the viewpoint moves out of the first link boundary, a standard image is displayed.

摘要: A decoding execution unit decodes image data encoded with a resolution higher than that of a display device. A display buffer stores image data decoded by the decoding execution unit. A standby buffer stores image data decoded by the decoding execution unit while the image data stored in the display buffer is being displayed. A reduced image buffer stores image data produced by reducing the entirety of the image data. An image display control unit switches from the image data stored in the display buffer to the image data stored in the standby buffer if the decoding of the image data by the decoding execution unit is completed, and enlarges the image in the reduced image buffer and stores the enlarged image in the display buffer if the decoding of the image data by the decoding execution unit is not completed.

A quantization scale arithmetic operation section 43 calculates a coefficient of a quantization index based on a variance of values of a motion vector residual outputted from a motion vector residual variable buffer section 72 and an activity outputted from an activity buffer section 73. The quantization scale arithmetic operation section 43 calculates a quantization scale based on the coefficient of the quantization index calculated thereby and the quantization index outputted from the quantization index arithmetic operation section 42. The present invention can be applied to an image coding apparatus of the MPEG system.

摘要: An object detector, an object detecting method and a robot can reduce diction errors of detecting wrong objects without increasing the volume of the computational operation to be performed to detect the right object. A face detector 101 comprises a face detecting section 110 that operates like a conventional face detecting section and is adapted to roughly select face candidates from an input image by template matching and detect face candidates by means of a support vector machine for face recognition, a non-face judging section 120 that detects non-face candidates that are judged to be non-faces and removes them from the face candidates selected by the face detecting section 110 and a skin tracker section 114 for tracking a face region after the non-face judgment. When the assumed distance between the face detector and the face as computed from the input image and the measured distance as measured by a distance sensor show a large difference, when the color variance of the face candidate is small, when the occupancy ratio of the skin color region is large and when the change in the size of the face region is large after the elapse of a predetermined time, the non-face judging section 120 judges such face candidates as non-faces and removes them from the face candidates.
