    摘要: A picture signal processing circuit for use in a picture reproducing apparatus, wherein a picture to be copied is optically scanned by a line image sensor to provide picture signals for each of the plural picture elements of the picture. A detector circuit is arranged to detect a local variation in the density of the picture based on a convolution operation on picture signals of a two-dimensional picture-element array to produce a local density variation detection signal which represents a high frequency component of the input signal. The picture-element array being detected is shifted by one picture element in a scanning direction during optical scanning of the picture. A signal processor circuit is responsive to the local density variation detection signal to switch between a simple binarization processing using single threshold data and a dithering binarization processing using dither matrix threshold data for the picture signal to be applied to a printer. With this arrangement, line pictures, character pictures or the like are reproduced with binary signals and continuous tone pictures are reproduced with dithered signals.

The image forming apparatus includes: a sensor whose resolution in a main scanning direction parallel to the axis of the axial light source is higher than a designated resolution; a controller that controls the driving speed of the axial light source so that the resolution in the subscanning direction is higher than the designated resolution; an original-image-data generating unit that generates original image data with a resolution higher than the designated resolution in response to the output from the sensor; and an image reducing unit that generates reduced pixels fewer than a specified number of pixels in the original image data to generate a reduced image with a resolution equal to the designated resolution.

Image information signals corresponding to a character/line image are binary encoded by the fixed threshold value, and the image information signals corresponding to a halftone image or a continuous-tone picture are dithered.

    摘要: A color copying machine has a scanning-type proximity linear image sensor unit for optically scanning an input image and producing an image read signal, and a color printer unit for producing a copy image corresponding to the input image at limited levels of printing density. An image type discrimination circuit receives the image read signal, and at least partially discriminates the type of image based on a pattern matching technique, thereby producing a discrimination signal for specifying the image type in a pixel region of a predetermined size of the input image. An adaptive signal processing circuit also receives the image read signal, and performs different image signal correction processing in accordance with the discriminated image type, thus producing a corrected image signal, which is supplied to a multi-value dithering processor. The multi-value dithering processing circuit performs multi-value dither processing of the corrected image signal, and produces a printer drive signal for defining a printing pixel pattern for each pixel of the input image.
