The printer has a head-release control device which inhibits the head release mechanism from operating to move the print head to the release position if the space commanding member is momentarily operated, and activates the head release mechanism to move the print head to the release position if the space commanding member is operated continuously.

Each key switch is connected between the first and second lines at a corresponding one of the intersections. Similarly, each position-hold switch is connected between the third and fourth lines at a corresponding one of the intersections. Some of the first or second lines are used as the third or fourth lines. The matrix scanning arrangement scans the first matrix to determine whether each key switch as been operated, and scans the second matrix to determine the selected stable positions of each position-hold switch, only when a scanning of the first matrix indicates that the number of the key switches which have been operated is not greater than a reference value.

Excited by the entered protons and emitted from the substrate to be analyzed, the characteristic X-ray is measured by an energy dispersive X-ray detector and the like. Impurity elements present in the substrate to be analyzed are identified based on the measured characteristic X-ray. The in-plane distribution in the substrate can be obtained by scanning the proton beam. The in-depth distribution can be obtained by entering protons at different proton incident angles. The elemental analysis method can be applied to semiconductor device manufacturing processes to analyze metal contamination or quantify a conductivity determining impurity element on an inline basis and with a high degree of accuracy.

According to the present invention, with a simpler structure than conventionally, there is provided a display device whose frame region is obscured, or which can display a jointless image in the case of being tiled up, and yet which has a high display quality and is suitable for thinness and light-weightness.
