In a second linear actuator, a flat plate-like permanent magnet is provided in that one of a movable section and a stationary section which is provided with a coil for generating a magnetic flux for reciprocating the movable section, and that surface of the other which is opposed to the permanent magnet and functions as a magnetic pole surface is formed flat. In a third linear actuator, each of an engaging projection and a cutout is provided so as to be oriented in the direction in which the magnetic force of the permanent magnet acts on the magnetic pole section. At least a portion of the cutout is notched in the direction in which the magnetic force of the permanent magnet acts on the magnetic pole section.
