A recording method ejects ink by thermal energy produced by a heat generating element of a recording head in response to a drive signal. The method includes the step of controlling an amount of ejection of the ink by a temperature control for the recording head including at least heating of the recording head, when a temperature of the recording head is not higher than a predetermined first temperature. The method further includes the steps of controlling the amount of ejection of the ink by changing a waveform of the drive signal for ejecting ink in accordance with the temperature of the recording head when the temperature of the recording head is higher than the first temperature and not higher than a second temperature, and fixing the waveform of the drive signal when the temperature of the recording head is higher than the second temperature.

An ink jet recording apparatus is disclosed in which a bubble is created in ink by thermal energy generated in response to a drive signal applied to a heater, and the ink is ejected onto a recording material by expansion of the bubble. The recording apparatus includes a driving device and a changing device. The driving device applies a plurality of driving signals to the heater for each ink droplet ejection. The driving signals include a first driving signal for increasing a temperature of the ink adjacent the heater without creating the bubble, and a second driving signal after the first drive signal for ejecting the ink. An interval is provided between the first and second drive signals. The changing device changes a width of the first drive signal to adjust an amount of ejected ink. The interval is not shorter than 2.6 microseconds and the second drive signal has a constant width.

In the recording method and apparatus, ink is ejected by thermal energy produced by a heat generating element of a recording head in response to application of driving signals thereto, the driving signals being of plural waveforms including a fixed waveform. The method includes the steps of detecting a temperature of the recording head and applying the driving signals to the heat generating element of the recording head. The waveforms of the driving signals are changed in accordance with the temperature of the recording head when the temperature of the recording head is below a predetermined level, and the waveforms of the driving signals comprise the fixed waveform when the temperature of the recording head exceeds the predetermined level.

This invention relates to an ink jet recording apparatus with a support member for supporting an ink jet recording head for effecting recording by ink discharge onto a recording material, comprising: recording material transport means for transporting the recording material from a feeding position through a recording position to a discharge position; and recovery means for maintaining and restoring the ink discharge state of said ink jet recording head. The driving source for driving the recording material transport means or support member is also used for driving the recovery means, and, when the power supply to the apparatus is turned on, the initial operations of at least the recording material transport means and the recovery means are conducted utilizing a single sensor.

An ink jet recording apparatus includes ink ejecting outlets for ejecting ink, an ink container for containing the ink to be supplied to the ejecting outlets, ink supply passage for supplying the ink from the container to the ejecting outlets, a recovery system for forcedly ejecting the ink through the ejecting outlets. The recovery system repeats the forced ejecting action, and a quantity of the ink ejected by one forced ejecting action is larger than an inside volume of the ink supply passage.

A recording apparatus having a recording head provided with plural ink discharging outlets for discharging ink includes a detector for detecting temperature distribution in the recording head relating to recording operation of the recording head; a calculator for processing temperature data; and a controller responsive to an output of the calculator. The controller provides a uniform temperature distribution in the recording head by controlling a recording speed of the recording head.

A method of exchanging a waste ink pack that stores waste ink discharged by repeated ink clearing operations performed on an ink jet head involves comparing a cumulative number of times the ink clearing operation have been performed using a particular waste ink pack with upper limit data based on the capacity of the waste ink pack. When the cumulative number reaches the upper limit data, an indication is provided that the waste ink pack should be exchanged for a new one, after which exchange a previous instruction to a recovery device to perform an ink clearing operation is performed. Ink clearing operations are then repeated with that waste ink pack until the number of such operations again reaches the upper limit data.
